After selling our own home and entering the rental market as tenants, we have experienced some very shoddy treatment at the hands of letting agencies in the UK. As tenants we felt we were often treated as \'second class\' by the letting agents and agencies, and the landlord was seen as the prime interest in the equation. This is hardly a balanced state of affairs.
An example of this is that a local agent from another agency (shall remain nameless here!) spent a great deal of time ridiculing the tenants of a house we were viewing, telling us their personal details and such personal things as the fact that their marriage had broken down. Another agency took messages and did not phone back, and many were brusque and rude. As we have often paid a proportionately large amount in terms of our income on rent, and we felt we were investing in the arrangement, this has lead us to steer clear of several agencies, because we just didn\'t trust them ...which serously narrowed our choice of homes. As a tenant one can feel at the mercy of the letting agents, and we became very disillusioned. Why pay so much to be treated so badly? We have had experiencing renting abroad and were appalled by the general treatment we got from so many letting agents in the UK. Was the industry rotten we asked ourselves?
Then we found Romans. We feel very fortunate to have found our current tenancy through Romans. From the get-go the experience was akin to a breath of fresh air. We walked into the Woodley office and were treated with a high level of respect, tact and professionalism. Our case was handled swiftly and with sensitivity. From first viewing of the property we had finalised the details within a week. We met several members of staff before we settled with our contact person, Emma Doel, and all staff members shared the same high degree of professionalism.
We continue to be very impressed with the service we receive from our contact Emma Doel. Any queries are dealt with immediately, any challenges have been surmounted easily and there is an excellent communication style. This has in turn lent a very happy tone to our tenancy. Being treated in such a way has meant we feel valued and this translates to us being the happiest tenants, I am sure happy tenants means a better maintained property. We feel part of a well mananged arrangement, rather than sidelined, and this means we have a better connection with the property. We are renting it, it belongs to someone else, but we feel involved in it and this makes all the difference.
Emma has been great at bridging communication between us, the tenants and the landlord. We feel we can speak to Emma at Romans if there ever were any issues and trust that we would be represented well. We are looking forward to our quarterly inspections, which is in direct contrast to how we would have felt if we had entrusted our monthly rental budget to some other agencies I could have mentioned. We are taking pride in the property we are \'loaning\' and look forward to proving as much.
To summarise I have to say that what puts Romans and Emma in particular above others is that we have been treated with respect, well informed and this has enabled us to be the best tenants we can be. Should we ever enter the market as owner/landlords we would choose Romans to handle our case, and we continue to recommend Romans to friends and acquaintances who are looking to rent.
