Unbelievably pathetic, James Dean are deceitful, money grabbing and incompetent at best ¢â‚¬â€œ DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE. We rented a flat in Redhill through James Dean which was advertised as available furnished or unfurnished. We opted for unfurnished and even had conversations with the letting agent (Chris Powers) as to how we needed an unfurnished flat. On the day of moving in the flat was fully furnished, we called Chris to report the error and his verbatim response was ¢â‚¬Å“WELL IT'S NOT REALLY MY PROBLEM IS IT¢â‚¬Â he proceeded to claim we were lying about wanting the flat unfurnished and it was only when we refused to sign the inventory and found the flat still advertised online as available unfurnished (despite us paying the retaining fee a month earlier) that Chris called the landlord. We were then forced to transport all the furniture, kitchen wear etc to the landlords house for storage ourselves.
AFTER MOVING IN WE DISCOVERED SEVERAL PROBLEMS which the landlord was unaware of, including mould hidden by the landlord's furniture, no TV aerial and the flat had not been cleaned ¢â‚¬â€œ there were suspicious stains on the carpet and grease throughout the kitchen. We reported this to Stacey who would never return our calls and did nothing to remedy any of our complaints. We called Chris Powers to complain about the state of the flat and he HUNG THE PHONE UP ON US.
We tried complaining directly to the owner, James Honeycutt. This got us nowhere, he would never speak to us on the phone and rarely replied to emails. After much chasing and complaining we were offered a pitiful sum of compensation but the problems were never solved.
After 6 months of being forced to put up with the problems in the flat thanks to James Deans lack of customer service we decided to move on. When we originally signed the contract Chris Powers told us that it was a 12 month contract with a 6 month break clause i.e. we would be able to end the contract after 6 months. Upon handing in our notice in month 6 we were told that we could only give notice in month 4, we had missed the deadline and there was nothing we could do. James Dean refused to accept any responsibility for any of the errors and it is only through our own negotiations with the landlord that we were able to leave the contract 2 months early (though we had to pay the landlord an extra fee for this). It is our impression that Chris Powers deliberately misrepresented the contact to make a sale.
We have had to chase James Dean through every step of the process since signing the contract, once they had our money they did not want to know. We have found them to be rude, deceitful and greedy and would STRONGLY ADVISE EVERYONE TO STAY WELL AWAY from James Dean. They have a high staff turnover and an incompetent, unprofessional attitude. They leave adverts online of properties that are no longer available to appear busier than they are and have an endless list of excuses to extract money from people.
WE WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN! And are glad to be (almost) free of them!
What agent could do to change your mind?
The agent should have actually acknowledged our complaints and reponded to our calls and emails. They should have rectified their mistakes instead of calling us liars and hanging up!
