DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LETTING AGENT!
As young students last year we found a nice looking flat on Rossclare's website and decided to rent it.
After we had told them this, they were very quick in asking for over £200 from us within a week to secure the flat.
We also had to pay reference check fees - which we now know are illegal - and assume that they make all their tenants pay. We found it strange that in total we paid £48 for them to make a two minute phone call to each of our parents.
The staff were fairly helpful throughout, however on some instances sent people round to the flat with less than 24 hours notice - something they say they always do.
Upon leaving, we tidied the flat from top to bottom and it was immaculate. We left things in the wardrobes (picture frames, hangers etc) that were there when we got there. Now we have received our deposit they have taken £50 from us - for a 'dirty floor' and a few cobwebs (the flat had been vacant at least 3 months before we moved out - we couldn't take living there anymore, the flat block as a whole was a state and we believe there were drug dealers living across from us) in some hard to reach corners.
The main thing we are annoyed at is the reference check fees. They are adamant they will not pay it back as they believe they are allowed to charge fees for 'admin' and 'references' when the law has currently changed and states that it is illegal for any letting agent to charge fees of this kind. I know people who also rent with Rossclare and they have also been charged reference fees, so I assume everyone the rent flats to are charged fees. We are taking them to court over this (we don't care about the money, we want to prove a point to them to say that they can't to this to people - especially young students who don't really know otherwise.) If you read this and have been charged fees, I urge you to ask them for the money back and state the law to them. They shouldn't get away with charging people money when it is illegal.
No matter how nice a flat it may be, please do not rent from this company, the whole process will only stress you out!
What agent could do to change your mind?
Not charging fees for a start and not taking money for silly things when the flat was in a state to begin with when we moved in.
