Winchesters begin business by imposing an agreement onto their landlords giving Winchesters the authority to do anything they choose in the landlord's name, without the landlords knowledge or agreement, and requiring the landlord to approve all such actions without even knowing about them.
In the present state of the law, landlords can be jailed for many offences - not just under the right to rent law but for many other offences that landlords do not even know whether their agent has committed behind their back.
Then it turns out that Winchesters are involved in the Spark Energy scam, under which they change the energy supply to Spark and pass them off on the tenants as the 'deemed supplier'. (Legally the previous resident's supplier is the deemed supplier, and only a resident has the legal right to change to a new supplier). This is theft from the deemed supplier.
Not only does this deprive the legal deemed supplier of their customer but it delivers the unfortunate tenant into the hands of a company whose business practices include sending enormously overestimated bills, removing enormous amounts from the tenants' bank accounts for fuel that they have not used, sending debt collectors around based on enormously overestimated bills, holding them to ransom by refusing to let them transfer to a better supplier unless the pay a huge sum that they do not owe, etc, etc (see TrustPilot for more details).
Spark also bribes new customers to give them a good review (before they start those tricks on them) - so only the large number who give a bad review are likely to be genuine.
