We had the misfortune to buy a property through the Mexborough office and it was one deception after another. When we viewed in Sept we asked Emma who showed us around if the sale could be completed before December and were assured it could be completed in as little as 2 weeks! We made an offer based on completion by the beginning of December and were assured by Sam this would not be a problem but the condition was the house was bought as seen. We were then informed the offer would only be accepted if we could prove we had a first time buyer for our property which seemed very strange but we supplied the necessary proof. We then contracted a surveyor and found there was several thousand £s worth of work required however we made plans and even sweetened the deal with our buyers to make sure we could complete by the beginning of December this was very important to us because of a family situation. Out of the blue we were then told by Janet we would not be able to complete until February even though the house was supposed to be vacant as it had been taken in px against a new build. By this time we were several thousands out of pocket and felt we had no choice but to try and manage the situation, however we were receiving constant demands from Browns particularly the manageress Janet to exchange even though they could not give us a completion date, at one point one member of staff said we better exchange as they had received an offer for £20k more than we were offering however as with everything else this proved to be false. We exchanged contracts only to then be told we would not be able to move in February and in fact they didnt know when we could move!! We had to go ahead with our sale as the buyers mortgage offer was running out this effectively meant we would be homeless. The px manageress got involved then (Dawn ) and she did do everything she could to help and even got the builders to agree a completion date which tide in with our buyers but the people who were px refused the date consequently we ended up with all our belongings in storage and living in a hotel for weeks on end. The day of completion finally arrived and we went for the keys the staff at the office could not have been more surly if they had been trained all we got was a grunt and the keys virtually thrown at us!! This was one of the worst experiences we have ever had, it ended up costing us £14k more due to the extra storage and hotel costs and the sweetener we had to give our buyer and all because the staff at browns wouldnt know the truth if it slapped them around the face!! If at all possible avoid this agent for anything.

I totally agree with the above comments. We viewed a bungalow in April. Put an offer in, was told this was a higher than another offer that had been received and they would get back to me. Waited 4 days no contact. So telephoned again. To be told that it had gone to the other party as we hadn't been in with our details. Not once in any conversation were we asked to bring in any details. Infact got to impression that even when we went to view they didn't want us to put an offer in. No details gentlemen that showed us round didn't know anything about bungalow. Information leaflet had no measurements. No idea on rateable value. Just kept asking if we wanted to see another property down the road. I will certainly not use these estate agents.
