In February 2018 we have tried to rent a 2-bedroom house through Forest estate agency. We went to a viewing, liked the house, paid £500 holding deposit, submitted all the necessary paperwork. At that time, so happened that we were going for The Property Ombudsman against our then-letting agency, Austin Chambers, accusing them of bribery. We also tried to complain to our council regarding our then-roque-landlord (evidently the biggest reason we were moving out of our then-home, and looking for another place). In retaliation, Austin Chambers and our then-landlord just started to deliberately ignore requests for references from Forest estate agents. To make it short, the obvious thing happened- the prospective landlord got ânot happyâ with the delay (that's how Forest informed us), and decided not to rent to us. We tried to explain the situation to Forest- to no avail, and we lost our holding deposit (£500), which is a significant sum for everyone. In the end, we went to another estate agency (Jane Thorne), explained what happened, and got accepted into new tenancy with them! We are paying rent on time, look after property well. Looks like all- ourselves, our new landlord, Jane Thorne's agency - benefitted in the end. So, perhaps, Forest should sometimes really listen to their prospective renters, not only easily collect money.
