We were misinformed and had problems with this estate agent from day one. When signing the Contracts, we were told that the water bills were included (by Mike). A year later, after a letter from the water company threatening to cut us off, we asked Mike to sort it out with the Landlord and then were informed we were responsible for the water bills. We were then landed with a £500 bill. (Mike called us after we left to ask if the new tenants had to pay the water bills. So he still didn\'t know!!!) The bathroom was damp, leaking and horrible. It took almost 6 months for them to do some work on it (they changed the lino), but this never fixed the problem.
We then had 2 eviction notices within 2 months (the first was just 2 weeks after signing a new Contract), as the Landlord wasn\'t paying the mortgage. Because of this, we decided to buy our own place. Martin & Co said that they would waive the early release fee, because of the situation. It took us 5 months to buy a place, and we then gave our notice for June 3rd. A week or so later, we were contacted by Gemma (another Staff member) and asked if we could leave on May 26th, as they had tenants that wanted to move in (this is after Mike said he\'d never deal with the Landlord again...). We agreed to leave early, but only after agreeing that we would get a refund of the rent we had paid up until June 3rd. After 8 weeks of us chasing them for this refund, we were informed that we were only entitled to a day\'s refund, as we were responsible for the rent until the new tenants moved in! Unfortunately, the promise of a week\'s refund was only made verbally, so we have no proof and no leg to stand on. We have asked if they have informed the new tenants of the problems with the Landlord, but never got an answer. However, Mike did say that if we were to tell the tenants, he would sue us for damages if they or the Landlord lost any business.
These estate agents, Mike and Kelly especially, are rude, unethical and very untrustworthy. They rarely answer the phone or emails, and you can\'t trust what they tell you even when they do. I am so glad that we now own our place and will never have to deal with estate agents again!
What agent could do to change your mind?
They could have told the truth, answered calls and emails. They need to conduct their business with a different attitude, focused on helping their tenants with better customer service.
