I have been a tenant of a property in Southampton for two and a half years with Countrywide (via Morris Dibben Rentals). My friends are the landlords of the property. Luckily I have just bought a house in the area and am moving out as Countrywide Southampton (London Road branch) have been unbelievable bad.

They have allowed a small leak (quickly reported) to go untouched for weeks before structural engineers finally came out to view the problem, by that point thousands of pounds worth of damage had been done to the property. I reported this issue and others dozens of times, and have spent money of protective measures and repairs myself.

I reported a broken washing machine, and the landlords authorised a replacement right away (I was there when they did it), Countrywide then lied to say the landlords had not been in contact. I was then told having no washing machine was "not a big problem". It took a month to be replaced, and the mangers (Countrywide) arranged for the delivery of an incorrect appliance.

One person in the Countrywide management team who went by the title of "property manager" did not know what the Landlords and Tenants Act (1985) was! Another had to have the term "AST" explained to them!

I am currently writing this as the management team have been informed by workmen at my property today that due to major work being done there it is uninhabitable for at least two days. There is no water and no heating, plus no usable bathroom or kitchen. This would be fine (they workmen called them at lunchtime) if they made alternative arrangements for me for tonight. Countrywide have not done this, instead of calling me back as promised they have put the answerphone on and gone home.

I am compiling a major complaint case against Countrywide which I will submit via the correct channels at head office - who conversely have been very helpful.

My friends the landlords are distraught and will be suing. Do not use this management team if you are a landlord in Southampton. If you area prospective tenant then do not rent any property managed by Countrywide London Road office.

Hi Claudia, I wish you good luck with this, hopefully it will make Countrywide (who are a national company) take note of the appalling service some of their tenants receive in Southampton.
You can make contact via their website here:

Or you can call residential lettings head office at (01623) 721222.

Countrywide's MO is to take over small high street companies and then masquerade under what appears to be a local name. Countrywide took over a small independent letting agent in Amesbury and the name to Austin Wyatt. All of the experienced, knowledgeable staff either left ...

High, and extensive. Some are hidden (eg premiums added to maint bills paid to them directly by the contractor). And even a simple renewal ix overcharged.

Disgusting company branch run by an incompetent manager. The reviews for this company speak for themselves. The staff are rude, do not return calls, ignore emails and are never in the office, probably out of fear from having to deal with angry tenants and landlords. ...

Anything they charge is outrageous for the lack of service they deliver to tenants and landlords.

Best price for the tenant, not the landlord. He paid a % to them for nothing.
