We rented for 12 months with DJ Alexander and found them to be a complete joke of an agency. The rent was extortionate for the area, so we hoped we would receive decent service in return.

However, this was not the case. Despite notifying DJ Alexander and complaining multiple times, we were left without a bedroom light for nearly 3 months. When they eventually replaced the light they took the perfectly functional bulbs with them meaning we couldn't get a refund for them (we bought these thinking it was the problem but it wasn't. This light had around 12 bulbs so it wasn't a cheap bill!). We then chased them for return of the bulbs or refund payment for a further 6 months. So much hassle! Finally got it sorted a couple of weeks before we moved out. Ridiculous!

On another occasion we had to call them out due to a leaking washing machine. While they were faster to respond this time, they tried to charge us in excess of £150 for the call out despite the fault being outwith our control or ability to fix. Luckily, my partner wasn't for letting it go. Otherwise they would have just walked all over us as I didn't know any different.

Finally, when we vacated the property we had it professionally cleaned. They hauled us up for a very small mark on the cooker (smaller than a 5p piece) and what they said were dirty windows (despite cleaning receipt noting that they had been cleaned). All in all they charged us almost £70 for this new clean (including parking for the cleaner!!), which was just ridiculous in my opinion.

I was glad to be shot of these cowboy agents and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy! Having rented in the city for almost 5 years (on 3 other tenancies), I can tell you there are far better agents out there.
Avoid this agent if you can best avoid it!! They caused no end of grief/stress/disruption to our lives.

Having looked further into this matter I understand a charge of £47+VAT (being £56.40) was requested from you for repairing the washing machine, not the £150 you have alleged in your complaint. The fault was discovered to be due to a button jammed in the drum, assumed to be from your clothing. This charge was then waived by your landlord after you complained. We thought this had satisfactorily resolved the matter so our team are genuinely surprised by your continued annoyance about this.
I do however apologise that it took so long to refund you the £12.65 for the light bulbs which were removed in error.
With regards to the rental price you agreed to pay for the flat, I do very much acknowledge that rents in Edinburgh are rising at an unsustainable rate due to a major housing shortage and rapidly growing population. This is creating great financial strain on many tenants across the city and is likely to lead to the introduction of rent controls across the city next year.
