Do not use if you are a student. Look elsewhere.
Four friends and I were looking for a student house to rent for the next academic year, and after seeing an ad on Rightmove, we found a house we liked with Haart. The viewing was fine, with the exception of the current tennants taking drugs with us right there. We were told the property was undergoing major refurbishment and we happily put a holding fee down.
We went down to the office and were told that the way Haart does lettings is that we would sign the contracts and pay the deposit 6 weeks before we move in and wouldnt have to do anything in the mean time.
We put the holding fee down in January. For months we heard nothing else. We were keen to get the referencing underway and to get the ball rolling but every time we rung up to enquire, we were told to wait. So we continued to wait.
In june we found out that we would be unable to move into the property and due to personal circumatances of the land lord. We found this out two days before my final exam for the year. We were left stranded and stressed scrambling to find accomodation for the next year. We had to find a house in three days.
We were told out holding fee would be returned to us. In order to GET our holding fee, we had to phone the Haart office countless times. Everytime we called they were conveniently 'away' from the office or on the phone. They never once returned our phone calls. It took too long to have our money returned to us.
They never communicated with us with clarity and left us in an awful position just before our exams. I would NEVER recommend this company to students.
