As a first year who had missed out on housing and had been thrown together with a group of 4 other students, we didn\'t know what to expect. Nothing prepared us for the encounter.
We had scouted out various areas and decided on Moulsecoomb and saw many properties belonging to MTM. We (foolishly) decided to go on several viewings with them on a uni house hunt day. Alex showed us several awful properties but nothing could prepare us for the house we soul crushingly ended up with.
The so called "xxx xxx" was only chosen (by anxious parents) at the promise that improvement works would be done on the house before the move in date and these terms were discussed with the landlord and incorporated into our contract. The landlord was given 3 weeks to make these changes.
Needless to say when we moved in, the house was still disgusting, rubbish everywhere, filthy and unclean to name a few.
MTM and the landlord also knew there was a water leak under our house. To combat the landlord sent us a dehumidifier to help with the damp. This just made our bills huge. It took them 6 months and a massive water bill for them to finally call in an engineer to fix the problem. The work took him an hour.
Our contract also states that all maintenance issues are to be dealt with MTM and we are not to contact the landlord. Every time we have called MTM with an issue, they have sent us to the landlord who always ignores requests and seems surprised we have his number every time. According to MTM the landlord backed out of the maintenance scheme and we need to go to the office to sign a new contract. Not happening.
To anyone considering MTM, STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AT ONCE. They are the most incompetent crooks I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with, only out to take advantage of students and take your money. Anybody who says otherwise clearly works for them. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM NO MATTER HOW NICE THE HOUSE IS.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Actually done the job required. It took them 8 weeks to fix a light fitting.
