My experience with Letters of Distinction has been the most stressful, upsetting time I have ever encountered. The administration fees are ridiculously high, for example, if you choose to renew your tenancy, you must pay 60.00. From the start of my tenancy, I was made to feel that the agency give the landlord their time and effort and have little consideration for the tenant. My bond was 900.00 ( 150 of this was payment to allow me a cat ). On leaving the premises, my family and I spent hours cleaning only to hear that 104.00 was being deducted from my bond to cover cleaning, bulb replacement, hedge trimming and flea treatment. The landlord claimed that he was doing me a favour by charging me just 30.00 for the flea treatment when he had been quoted 90.00. On discovering that my cat doesn't have fleas, I asked for a receipt to prove that the flat had been treated. I was then emailed an invoiced typed by the landlord. On explaining that this was not a receipt, he said that if I wanted a proper receipt, he would have the 90.00 treatment arranged and charge me for this. I was charged 40.00 to have my outside hedge trimmed. The hedge was the width of 2 doors and would have actually cost 10.00. I was informed that the neighbouring hedges were also trimmed and I can only assume that my bond paid for these also. I asked for proof of the work that was done and after several attempts at gaining this information from Letters of Distinction, I begrudgingly agreed to the reduced amount of my bond reduction. This was agreed on 26/07/2017 and I was informed that the money would be returned between 5 and 7 working days. On the 16th working day after many phone calls from myself to Letters, I received the incorrect amount of 645.28, the amount was 150.72 short. On querying this, I was told that this would be looked into and somebody would call me back. Nobody returned my call and when I phoned again at the end of the day, the lady who was dealing with this was in a meeting and therefore had no intention of calling me back. I have checked my account and the money still hasn't gone in and the last time I spoke to Letters, the manager was rude, unapologetic and very patronising. Whenever I tried to sort this out, they would give me meaningless excuses; change in system, waiting to hear from the accounts department - this department apparently doesn't have a phone number. I'm sure that Letters will respond to my complaint in the same jargon-filled patronising way that they spoke to me when I tried to resolve these issues. I would never recommend this company. The manager stated that I hadn't been treated poorly and pointed out that I had telephoned them every day. When a large amount of money is owed to me and nobody returns my calls as promised, of course I am going to ring every day. Letters of Distinction are rude and incompetent.
Comment on agent fees
The fees are unnecessarily high
