I'm appalled at how we were treated by Alexanders throughout the duration of our tenancy.
We were lied to about the condition of the house prior to moving in. It was dusty, damp and dirty the day we moved in, it had clearly not been cleaned since the last tenants moved out. There were no working smoke alarms, and the bath and fridge were broken. Holes in the kitchen walls so slugs could get in - it took them over 3 months to fix this from our first complaint.
We had severe damp and mould in the house. They did nothing to remedy this, even after we contacted the council and they were ordered to carry out works on the house. Much of my own property was damaged by the damp and had to be thrown out.
Multiple issues with the house were simply not dealt with at all after we reported them (leaky guttering, slates falling off the roof, front gate doesn't lock). We were charged ridiculous fees after moving out for completely made up repairs and professional cleaning, which was absolutely unnecessary as we left it in a much cleaner state than we found it.
They sprung two 'quarterly inspections' on us (with no mention of these when we signed for the house, OR in the tenancy agreement) - that only seemed to happen after we'd reported a problem. Clearly they didn't trust us and were looking for things to charge us money for.
The women that work in the office are rude and condescending and the emails we received from them when discussing the return of our deposit were frankly appalling. It took them over a month to return what was left of our deposits to us after our calls and emails went unanswered. We are mature students that have rented property many times before and know how to look after a house - we didn't deserve to be treated this way.
I have heard many students complain about Alexanders being rude to them and trying to scam them out of their security deposit by making up problems with the house at the end of their tenancy. Our whole 10 month tenancy with them was a nightmare. I would say - avoid at all costs, especially if you are a student!

Complaints Procedure
For everyone who has dealings with AEA Management (either our Lettings and Management Department or our Sales Department) there is a clear procedure if the landlord, tenant, applicant, guarantor, purchaser, or the vendor considers that the company has let them down in some way.
The company aims to provide a high standard of service to clients and customers alike.
Outlined below is the Company’s current complaint procedure.
