I am writing on behalf of 4 students who mistakenly rented a property from Chiltern Hills Estate agent. We are currently attempting to get the deposit back but despite many promises it has not been returned. We should have known. The house was damp and poorly maintained. On the day students moved in the house was not furnished, The Washing machine never worked despite promises to get it fixed, it never was, the cooker was condemned from the date students moved in. Students were repeatedly refused a copy of the contract. Students moved out after 6 months. The property was left in in a good state (parents even attended and cleaned!) a bill was then produced by the estate agent for remedial work for wear and tear that was not required (grouting in the bathroom!). A parent was present when the assessor inspected the property prior to it being returned to the landlord. Assessor commented positively on the condition of the house. Chiltern Hills then produced a different assessors report! They do not reply to emails and use every delaying tactic possible. Please do not use Chiltern Hills they prey on students lack of knowledge. We are taking legal action over their failure to return the deposit.
What agent could do to change your mind?
Be Honest , stick to contract, provide properly mainatained accomodation, take pride in what you do and move to offering a service to tenants rather than seeing them as cash cows and a nusiance.
