We signed an assured short hold tenancy agreement for the property.
After living there for a week the boiler cupboard door came loose, the electrics went faulty, the gutter fell off, the roof leaked, we reported this and had roofers turn up (unannounced) - which was then CONDEMNED until the landlord gave the builders the go ahead to put scaffolding up to be able to assess the problem correctly, my children and I cut our feet on badly installed gripper rods, the gas meter box was exposed... the list goes on, the whole house was a botch up job!!!
After waiting 2-3 weeks for them to contact us to let us know when the roof was to be fixed we arrived home to find the front of the house covered in scaffolding - without prior arrangement. The electrical faults with the light was fixed by a self confessed 'handyman - jack of all trades, master of none' who was a friend of the actual landlord and NOT a qualified electrician, needless to say the light was back in it's non working condition a matter of 24 hours later.
None of the other faults with the house were ever rectified and Edward Mellor 'just can't get hold of the landlord.'
After living there 3 months a criminal incident happened to my family and we had to leave, but before deciding this we informed Mellor and asked if the landlord would let us out of the lease early, which (due to the nature of the incident) she did.
We informed the manager of our date of leaving the property, twice, and he informed the landlord and we made arrangements to go.
It is now 1 month after we left, the manager told the landlord the wrong date, who now wants paying up until the wrong date (which is a difference of 10 days) or we will 'have to pay the full rent for the remaining 3 months' even though we came to an amicable decision. We are being charged for a paint job to cover a small patch on a wall for 150 pounds - which I imagine will be done by the 'handyman' for a fraction of the cost of 150.
Before we moved in we had to chase Edward Mellor constantly for updates as they never contacted us, then when we were in the house we had to constantly call to chase up faults etc which again, were never rectified other than the roof, now we have left, yet again we are having to call to chase up our deposit, disputing the amount - because of their error!!
We have been through enough stress, worry and pain whilst dealing with Edward Mellor and the landlord which they were fully aware of but it seems they are using our anguish to their advantage and trying to make a financial gain through it. If Edward Mellor and the landlord weren't agreeable with us leaving our tenancy early then they should have said when we first discussed it, not let us leave and penalise us later.
Their admin, customer, communication and people skills are a shambles!!
As a previous assistant manager I am appalled at the service my family and I have been given. I would never recommend to use Edward Mellor, specifically the Stockport office with their sometimes rude and unhelpful lettings staff. It is as if they are saying whatever they think you want to hear, just to get you off the phone without passing information on to the relevant staff and not dealing with the problem in hand!
