I BEG YOU - DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE - THEY LOOK GREAT BUT TREAT EVERYONE LIKE SH**. IF YOU TAKE NOTHING ELSE FROM THIS REVIEW, PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM THESE MONEY GRABBING AWFUL PEOPLE. I went to see a property at 7 New Street Chambers, New Street. I asked if the windows open and was told yes. I was also told that if the property was available early I'd be able to move in early. The staff seemed lovely and gained my trust. Both their claims were lies. When I moved in to the apartment, 4 of 6 windows were painted shut. The dishwasher and cooker hob didn't work at all. Of the two windows that did open, one was missing timber from the frame and the other was rotten and fit so poorly I could hear a poodle fart in the street outside. The TV aerial wasn't connected so I had no TV. One of the plug sockets didn't work. The fridge door didn't shut properly. The kitchen sink isn't sealed properly and leaks. The bathroom taps aren't sealed to the sink and leak. We suffered from noise above us (the whole building is rented by Centrick Property) and they claimed we were making it up. When we asked to rent a £400 more expensive property on the top floor instead we were told that it had already been rented which, when we enquired under a pseudonym, turned out to be a lie. I've been in for one month now and what has changed? After 2 weeks - the TV aerial got connected. After 1 month - one window got fixed by jamming the holes with draft excluder, whilst the other is still dangerous - still 4 of the 6 windows are painted shut. It took one month to fix the dishwasher and the plug socket. Oh, I should add the bin store is a room on the landing - there are no plastic bins or a bin chute - we just pile our rubbish bags up in it - IT STINKS and regularly the rubbish is waist height. There are clear opportunities for rats to enter the area and because the apartment doors fit SO poorly (I can put a whole finger under my front door) rats will enter the apartments. Read notes on the agent's fees for further comedy action. I should consider myself lucky, however, there are others in the apartment block who have had no washing machine or hot water for the last month - and in some of the two bed apartments, there are entire rooms which don't have an opening window.
Comment on agent fees
I paid ‚£400 in fees. These were for registration with council tax, utilities and registering the building with the post office, and for doing a credit check. 1 month in, and I have spoken to the council tax office who told me that I was the first person to inform them of the 20 new apartments' existence and they confirmed they had need been contacted by anyone in regards New Street Chambers and had actually been at the property and attempted to gain access to find out more but couldn't get in. Secondly, 1 month in and we still have not been contacted by any of the utilities providers that we were supposed to be contacted on our behalf as part of our fees. Our property has also not been registered with the post office properly and so only apartments 3,4 and 9, out of 20 are known to our postal service. This makes it impossible for us to get broadband or sky, and one month on we are still waiting. For the ‚£400 that Centrick took, they have provided nothing at all.
