On leaving the property. Lewis Phipps were incredibly slow to respond to our queries about return of the deposit, to the point of being rude.
Every time I call the agency I was made to feel like I was a nuisance and that I had no reason to be hurrying the return of the deposit. In this situation there was very little I could do except call up and ask Lewis Phipps to progress the matter - we received no support from them, they had clearly agreed something with the landlady without discussing with us, and they generally came across as rude and unwilling to help.
As a tenant, I would be very wary before letting any property from this agency - if there is money in it for them they will respond, but otherwise good luck in getting your money back in a reasonable timeframe at the end!! This is what happened for us.
Day of returing keys: On returning our key, we were told they would be in touch very shortly -
7 days later: Having not heard anything I contacted Lewis Phipps to be told that I would have to talk to Dan and call back tomorrow -
8 days later: I did this and on speaking to him was told that although he had looked round the property and it all looked fine, the owner Lewis had had separate dealings with the landlady and so I would need to talk to him and call back the next day.
9 days later: I did this and Lewis said that he needed to get in touch with the landlady, and he would call me.
11 days later: Having not heard anything, I contact Lewis to find out that he hasn't contacted the landlady, but says he will do.
12 days later: I call again and Lewis informs me that deposit will be deducted £75 for cleaning (despite being told by the agent that looked round that it was fine.) We question this and the letting agent is unable to shareany evidence that cleaning was needed - we left the place spotless. Lewis says he will go back to the landlady.
13 days later: I call again and nothing has been done. We decide to contact the landlady and are told by her that she got a cleaner in on advice of Lewis Phipps, having
14 days later: I contact Lewis Phipps to say we have agreed to £50 deduction. On the phone I am told it will be processed that day.
15 days later: I call again (Saturday), to be told it has not been processed, but it will be on Monday
18 days later - Tuesday: I call again, to be told payment still not processed and that Lewis is out. I call a few hours later and finally he does it while I am on the phone! Result! Only 18 days after moving out!
