This review is long overdue, but I purposely held off writing this review in order to assess the outcome (this will be clearer below).
I own and live in my flat, and I had been having problems with the tenants above me who rented their flat through Outlook (though Outlook were not actually managing the property).
I had emailed the landlord of the property to start off with but don't think he really knew how to deal with the issue, and so I emailed Outlook hoping they might help. At the time, Jeremy was working at the E16 branch.
Jeremy explained that although this was not a property they were managing, they would do their utmost best to help me, provided the landlord consented to him contacting the tenants. (credit also goes to Matt C. as he was also helpful, as was Simon when he arrived at the E16 branch).
To make a long story short, and without going into detail, it would seem that whatever Jeremy said in his correspondence to these tenants helped, because I haven't had any issues since.
I'm grateful that he was willing to go above and beyond and step in to assist a landlord who really lacks the experience in managing tenants/their behaviour, etc.
At the end of the day, it's one thing for a landlord to want to manage their own property (presumingly to keep costs down) but another if they don't know how to do this.
Agents like Outlook are there for a reason: to ensure that tenants behave themselves and adhere to the terms of their leases.
My final words: if you are a landlord and are in doubt as to whether you can manage the property you are letting out, save yourself the headache, and leave that to the estate agents. Although your tenants might be paying their rent on time, it is leaseholders like myself who have to live beside, or below your tenants, and trust me, this does not always make for a quiet and peaceful existence.
