Our experience with Northfields was OK up until the last moment, when it came to handling the deposit. A week after we moved out they announced to us that they'd be deducting £250 for cleaning charges, £5 for every light-bulb that needed replacement, and £65 for a person to change the light-bulbs (!). Our contract allowed for these *kinds* of charges, but of course it said nothing about what the *level* of the charges should be. All of these charges were way above what was reasonable based on average market values. Either Northfields pocketed a nice profit or they're happy to scatter tenants' money to contractors charging extravagant sums, simply because the money isn't theirs and they couldn't care less how it's used. Either way, it's unethical and ought to be illegal for them not to let tenants know about these charges at the time of signing the contract so prospective tenants know what they're in for.
