Worst letting agent I have had the misfortune to deal with - would never use again. Many problems with contracts beforehand, and different staff members saying different things. On the day we were meant to move we were all packed up and leaving Dundee when they phoned to say we could not get into the flat as our guarantor's reference had not been completed. We had submitted the request for references 4 weeks previously so not clear why they left it to that morning to tell us, instead of a few weeks before so we could chase it up. Also a bit annoying we needed guarantors as both my flatmate and I were starting work as junior doctors in the coming weeks and had contracts confirming this, but because tenancy date was before this we needed guarantors. Coutrywide would not let us into the flat that day/discuss it with the landlord to see if they would be happy to let us in while reference was being completed. Had to stay at a friend's flat overnight, and move all our stuff in there, to then move it out again the next day and into the flat.

Flat was clean when we arrived but very shabby and quite dirty - Countrywide refused to do anything about this.

Boiler broke down several times throughout the year and repairmen were sent round, however if they attended when we were out there was no communication and so we did not know if they had been/if they had fixed it/if they needed to come back with other equipment etc. Ended up having no heating or hot water for 10 days with no communication from Countrywide. I had to phone them everyday to find out what was going on, and usually ended up speaking to a different person everyday who had no idea what was going on. Put in a formal complaint and only then did they off an apology.

Very bad communication throughout the whole year - they will promise to return your calls/emails but you will never hear from them; however when they need something from you (usually money!) they will hound you until they get what they want. Very unprofessional service. In addition each staff member has a personal email address, so if they are off/decide to ignore your emails there is no one else who has seen the email.

We did not receive our whole deposit back, depsite taking very good care of the flat. This procedure took about a month to go through anyway and by this stage I was not prepared to fight them anymore so accepted half the deposit back, even though I feel we deseverved more. The value of the money was not worth the stress (which is saying something!)

In conclusion Countrywide are the worst letting agency I have come across and I would never rent from them again - I would rather live in a disgusting flat with any other letting agent; than a nice flat with countrywide. Avoid at all costs.

What agent could do to change your mind?
Nothing. There was no attempt to improve service when I voiced my unhappiness so therefore conclude they simply did not care. Therefore nothing would win back my custom now.
