Poor. My partner and I phoned to put an offer in on a flat we had seen.
I was told that an offer could not be put to a landlord without me first paying two weeks rent as a deposit. I asked if the landlord could be contacted first, was told no, it was company policy. I said in that case, I won't put the offer in. Two minutes later, I was called, the manager had been spoken to and they would put the offer to the landlord. They then called and said she'd accepted so I paid a holding deposit of £750.
The following morning, I received a call to say that the landlord had decided not to let the property. I asked for a refund, was told it would be done immediately. 3 hours later, no email as agreed, no refund. I called a company director. It turns out the letting agent didn't even put the offer to the landlord, he just wanted my money. In fact, he hadn't been able to contact the landlord (they are selling, not renting the property now). This also implies that the 'offer' somebody else had made which meant I 'would need to offer asking price' was a complete lie in order to negotiate a higher monthly rent.
I've now been waiting 3 days for a refund for a service that I didn't receive. Just a terrible way to behave that could leave people in a vulnerable position.
