I saw a cottage that I was very interested in purchasing that was advertised by Saxton Mee. I arranged a viewing and the unprofessional attitude was immediately apparant. Rather than being shown through the front door I was taken around the back through a yard, albeit a very pleasant yard, and in through the kitchen door.
Out of respect, and due to the immaculate presentation of the property, I removed my shoes but the agent showing me around didn't bother. Actually, when I say 'showing me around', that was not the case. After an initial 'whip round' in which the agent appeared not to know much about the property at all, I was left to wander on my own upstairs and downstairs. A good thing I do not have a tendency to be light-fingered as I could have filled my pockets!
I left as I had other properties to view but decided that the above first viewed was the one that I wanted. So I contacted the agents and informed them that I was a cash buyer, I had already sold my own property and was able to start proceedings immediately. Unfortunately, in the intervening period the property had been sold - or so they informed me. Oh well, 'win some lose some', I thought. But I did ask them to let me know if the sale fell through and left them my mobile number, landline number, address and email address.
So I was pleasantly suprised when driving past a week later to see the For Sale board up again, although strangely I had not been contacted by Saxton Mee. So I rang them and they said no, it had been sold and completion would be within a few days.
So I left it and a few days later saw that the board was still up. I knocked on the door and spoke to the vendor who informed me that it was back on the market and had been for a while - before I had last spoken to Saxton Mee when they had told me that it was not on the market!
Being somewhat annoyed, I rang Saxton Mee again. Interestingly, I gave them my name again and during the subsequent conversation they continually got my name wrong and I had to remind them of it several times during our discourse.
Apparantly the vendor had got it wrong, the property was sold and there had just been a few problems with the buyer. I was then given a list of what the problems were which I thought was rather unprofessional. So could I view the property again? "Oh no because it's now been sold!"
So I went back and queried this with the vendor and was told no it hadn't been sold, their prospective buyer, note prospective!, was stalling and they had instructed Saxton Mee that they were still accepting viewings!
I tried to contact the manager of the Bakewell Saxton Mee Office - he was out! I gave up and admitted defeat! Not really in the great tradition of 'He Who Dares Wins', but I had had enough of Saxton Mee telling me bare-faced lies, saying that a property had been sold when it was not, telling me I could not view when the vendors were still accepting viewings ...... and not even having the courtesy, or intelligence?, to remember my name throughout a conversation!
What agent could do to change your mind?
Told me the truth! Remembered my name after been told it! Listened to the vendors.
