I am sorry that you are upset that your landlord decided to sell or re-let the property that you lived in. However can I just explain that we do not own the property and merely act under the instruction of your landlord who is the owner and has every right to sell or re-let what belongs to him. Unfortunately property owners do not necessarily know when it is the right time to sell their property. It may very well have been your landlords intention to keep renting the property out and maybe the current ecconomic climate that we all find ourselves in may have contributed to the fact he had to sell. They may be all sorts of reasons why he had to sell or re-let but as the agent we HAVE to act on the instruction of the client ( the landlord) as he owns the property. This cannot be our fault we would have wanted you to have stayed in the property for as long as possible providing the rent is paid on time and the property is looked after as this is in our interest- When this happens we endeavor to find alternative accomodation for good tenants- Landlords rent for all sorts of reasons -Investor landlords are usually looking for long term lets others may rent their property out because they have a work placement somewhere else, they're movng in another family or perhaps they cannot sell their property in this market. My advice to you is to ask the agent if the property is an investement property as the likelihood is that the landlord will want a long a let as possible.
The Assured Shorthold Tenancy is designed in such a way that it gives flexibility to both landlord and tenant. For example your own circumstances may have changed and you wanted to vacate the property after telling the landlord that you wanted to be there long term. We are finding that this is the case for many people who have suddenly through no fault of their own find that they can no longer sustain their rent because they may have lost their job or just a sudden change in income. I hope this explains our position in this- if the let was without any issues we would not have wanted this for you I can assure you
It just the nature of the beast Im afraid.
