Myself and 3 other people rented out 21 Ashvale for 1 year starting July 2nd 2010 until July 2nd 2011. We had to put down a £1800 deposit and the rent was £1200 a month. When we arrived at the property on the July 2nd the house was absolute mess. The garden hadn't been done in years and the house looked liked it hadn't been cleaned in years. There were stained matresses, walls, windows that didn't shut properly, plug sockets coming off the walls. The washing machine didn't work, when the shower was on it leaked through the kitchen ceiling and most of what was on the inventory was missing.

We called Anglia on a number of occasions and sent letters and emails and they never got back to us. They didn't even put our deposit in a deposit protection scheme and we had to threat legal action, 2 months later they put our deposit in DPS. We contacted citizens advise about the repairs in the house and we started a case against Anglia. Mr and Mrs Jarvis the owners wouldn't even reply to the solicitors at first. They told us that the owner of the house Ms Divine Brown would not answer there emails about the repairs.

They arranged for us to have a meeting with Ms Brown, Mr Jarvis and ourselves at the property on a a number of occasions but neither Ms Brown or Mr Jarvis ever turned up to these meetings. We later found out that Ms Brown lives in South Africa so she had no intentions in of ever coming to a meetings even through we had spoke to her on the phone.

6 months later we managed to get new matresses and that was there limit on the repairs. When we final moved out the property we cleaned the house from top to bottom because we thought Anglia would find any excuse to give us our deposit back, and we were right. It is now September 16th 2011 and we still have not got the deposit back. We have been asking them from July 2nd 2011 to release our deposit and only yesterday did they agree to release the deposit deducting £400. After ringing Anglia numerous times I final got to speak to them and they said the £400 was for (this is the best bit) a check out fee???? a cleaner and a gardener.

We have have been trying to contact them and got through to speak to Mrs Jarvis who was very smug in telling us they want the £400. We are going to dispute this and get in touch with the BBC's Watchdog. This is a cowboy letting agency and would stay clear of them. If anyone has had a similar experience with Anglia please get in touch with me, we can not let them get away with ripping people off.
What agent could do to change your mind?
There is nothing they could to make me use this letting agency again!
