This agency is good at their business, that is, EARNING MONEY, and they sure know how to do so. First of all, the rent I was paying included bills but we could not use the heating when we wanted. It was programmed to come up a couple of hours at night and a couple of hours in the morning only. Of course this didn't allow the room to warm up and it was always freezing. Then some days the heating would not come at all for no reason. My room was fine but my mattress was the worst I've slept in. The springs were so protruding that they BRUISED my hips if I slept on my side, and I would wake up with backaches everyday. The flushes were horrible, it took 10 min for the cisterns to fill up with a tiny bit of water that wasn't enough to get rid of the waste, so the toilets were often clogged. Then came the problem with the internet. We went a whole MONTH without internet. They told us there was a problem with the line and that they were trying to sort it out. A problem with the line would never take a month. Obviously this was a lie. We found out by reading a letter from Sky that the contract had ended and it had to be renewed. I doubt that renewing a contract takes a month, but anyways. Why didn't they tell us the truth? They did get a temporary internet connection (a top-up hub) that was impossibly slow and I literally could not even get Google to run. We could check our emails on our phones a not much else, I had to constantly top up my phone in order to be able to at least write to my family abroad. Being university students, we rely on the internet a lot. Then they promise a weekly cleaner but you hardly see her once a month. She lied to me when I asked her what time she usually came around, because she said she came every week.
The worse part comes at the end of the contract. They kept my deposit even if the room is squeaky clean. Even if you do get your deposit back, first they will charge you around 40 pounds for a check-out inventory, and another 40 or so to give you your deposit.
First, you're required to hire a professional carpet cleaner and show them the receipt. I did this and they were still not happy because my cleaner had not removed the furniture, so they said there was dust on the floor around it (how is a man going to remove a iron wrought bed that has probably been put together INSIDE the room because it does not fit THROUGH THE DOOR?). Obviously the carpet was perfectly clean and this was just an excuse to keep my money. Now, very unfortunately and even though I cleaned very well, I left a tissue behind my dresser. This was their reason to render the room dirty and charged me a professional cleaning of the room. Then, they charged me a finder's fee of 180 POUNDS because I notified them too late (three weeks) of my end of contract, but the next day (and the following days as well) they had people viewing my room; obviously it didn't take them long to find a finder, so why this unfair amount of money?
