We purchased our investment property with an existing tenant and Townends as the managing agents. We decided to keep both in place as the tenant's rent account was clear and the reviews on balance seemed OK for Townends management abilities. As we live abroad we needed the full management service.
Our initial contact was with Diane Armstrong - her knowledge, speed of response and friendly manner gave us confidence that we had made the right choice with Townends.
Unfortunately for us, no fault of Townends, our tenant received a CCJ shortly after we took him on which prevented us having a Rent Guarantee Insurance in place. We were extremely unlucky as this is not a position we wanted to be in. We did decide to evict the tenant and regain possession, this proved to be expensive as no insurance was in place. The help we received from Diane and her colleague Katrina throughout the eviction process was great. They went out of their way to monitor the situation after the section 21 was served, giving practical help when needed - as we were in another country this was invaluable.
The downside? We found contacting head office to be really difficult at times - and this did cause us problems. We had to resort to contacting the Croydon office to get a response, this is obviously something that should never happen with mobiles, email etc. The other problem was that the accounting was not always accurate and we did have to keep a close eye on this. Nothing serious but again it shouldn't have happened.
