STAY AWAY FROM PROPERTY LINK AT ALL COSTS! Worst letting agency I have encountered in Liverpool.
Where do I begin...
Even before we moved in problems materialised. The incompetent men in the office seemed unable to agree on a figure for our rent. All 7 of us enquired, and were all told a different price. When we had all paid the summer rent, we were then told we had paid the wrong amounts and couldn't move in until this was paid in full. The problem was clearly theirs, yet some housemates were left with a few days to find up to £100 so the rest of us could move in.
The property was in an appalling state when we moved in. Had not been cleaned at all from the previous tenants, and we had to spend a good day moving their left property out so we could move theirs in. We had been promised when we signed the agreement that that it would be professionally cleaned. After a long, heated email correspondence with them, they eventually agreed to have it cleaned before we returned after summer. When we eventually did get back, it was obvious that hadn't been done properly. The floors were so disgusting that if you walked in white socks, they would be black by the time you got to another room. Also about 80% of the lightbulbs in the property didn't work on the day we moved in. We were told bulbs were are responsibility and they had all been checked and were working before we moved in. Again, it took a few weeks of emails sent in the dark for them to agree and replace the.
When we all returned to the property the oven broke. It took them 4 days to fix it. 7 students, in a house with no oven for 4 days. The same problem occurred to my friend, in another house by property link with their shower. In this instance it took them 6 weeks to repair it.
Our shower leaked through the kitchen ceiling, a problem they were aware of when we moved in. It took several weeks, and 5 or 6 plumber visits to actually identify the problem and fix it.
The boiler broke over new year, they told us it would be impossible to fix over this time, as nowhere would be open. 8 days they wanted us to go without heating, at the coldest time of the year. We had to contact the landlord directly again in order to get it fixed, once we did it was sorted within 36 hours. We had further problems with the boiler, and they didn't seem too concerned when British Gas rendered it unsafe. Eventually the boiler (which is about 20 years old) did pack in completely. Again, trying to get it fixed through Property Link took 4 days. I'm pretty sure one of my housemates got frostbite over this time.
The alarm system, which when we viewed the property were ensured that it was fully functional. When we enquired about how to use it we were then told it didn't work, hadn't worked for years and the landlord was not prepared to fix it. It took one phonecall directly to the landlord to find that this was a complete lie. He arranged to have it fixed immediately.
We were promised new carpets would be fitted before we moved in, it's now January (we moved in in July) and still the house is carpeted in grubby, old orange carpet.
Probably one of the worst things we experienced was in regards to the bills. As we are all bills included, we were pretty surprised to receive notices of unpaid bills through our first few weeks in the house. This went from bad to worse when a bill from the water company arrived in MY name, stating there was an unpaid bill and they were going to take me to court over it. I contacted property link immediately, who said they would sort it. 6 weeks later and I was still receiving these letters, to the point where I had been given a court date. It took a very strongly worded email to the managing director of the company, and a threat of police action (putting an account in my name without permission is cleary FRAUD) in order for this to be resolved.
These problems are just some of the major issues we have encountered. It would take me days to list everything. Living with Property Link is a daily battle and I would not recommend it to ANYONE. They're completely incompetent, useless, rude, lying, unhelpful and the worst agents around.
