After having had three pleasant experiences with other estate agents in London, one property purchase through Foxtons Borogh was enough to reaffiirm the commonly held notion that Foxtons are indeed awful. This time in the form of a certain gentleman named Thomas Holmes. The saga started with a lovely property which was advertised on two estate agent websites at different prices. To my bad luck, my first call was to Thomas Holmes at Foxtons who indicated that he was the sole agent on the property. Lie #1. The truth was that Foxtons had done a very poor job marketing the property for 6 months and had been unable to find a buyer due to which the vendor was frustrated and had engaged another agent instead. However in true Foxtons style they started to hold the vendor hostage on their contract etc. Thomas Holmes continued to represent to me that the vendor had put the other broker on hold and was solely working through Foxtons. Lie #2. The truth was that in an attempt to scramble and hold on to his commission (which according to Thomas and the Foxtons so called rule book was represented as non-negotiable), Thomas was actually trying to work out a deal where he and the other broker could share in the fees. The representation to the vendor throughout the time was that of him having "found" a buyer. The usual admonition of "other offers" and "putting the property on the market" continued as our slimy friend continued to scrape whatever commission he could rummage out of this deal. Needless to say the deal has closed with some discount for me and I have no doubt I will be able to make the most of this investment. However this experience for me and I would advise all reviewers to please stay away from Foxtons Borugh especially from their manager Thomas Holmes who is fully representative of the lies, lack of integrity and cheap behavior in the real estate market currently. I would fully advise going with a local broker who offers a lot more insight on the market and the transaction for the money that they charge and above all some traces of integrity. Bye Bye Foxtons and I truly hope Foxtons Borough closes their shutters very soon.
