Upon leaving the apartment I had rented for a year and a half with Maguire Jackson, I was told I would be getting less than half of my deposit back for false claims about how the apartment was left. Upon leaving the apartment I had the place steam cleaned at my own expense and friends around to clean (to ensure I'd know they'd have as little as possible reason to try and withhold any of my £900 deposit). So upon leaving I was more than happy that the lace had been left in a much better and cleaner state than when I had actually moved in.

It's been almost to months since I left and hadn't received near the amount of deposit I am happy with. I have had to go down the legal route to a solicitor in Birmingham town centre and upon reading my declaration, they had mentioned they'd received many issues from previous tenants about Maguire Jackson regarding their deposit not being handed over.

Don't get me wrong, I am not expecting my full deposit back. I felt £200 of it was more than enough to brush up little marks on the wall, replace a dining chair that was broke (it was broke when I'd got there) etc but th greed they have shown is disgraceful.

All in all I'd strongly recommend against using them and regret not researching about them beforehand. If you're after properties around birmingham town centre but are willing to lose most, if not all of your deposit despite looking after the home then these are the agents to go for.
If you want a respectable agent that doesn't lie and try to cheat you and make you have to go through the legal route to get your deposit back then go else where
What agent could do to change your mind?
The agent could be honest and not try to cheat people out of their hard earned money. They could release a deposit to people that was appropriate and wake up and see that many other people strongly disapprove of their methods

It was a nicely furnished apartment but with other neighbours in the apartment block with similarly furnished properties with which they were paying much cheaper rent to other agents made me feel a little cheated. Not all neighbours were great. I'd complained about one in particular who was playing loud music at silly times and damaging cars in the car park but the agents didn't want to help so I had to seek it form the council. Wholly, not worth the price of rent

Just a thought.... Philip Jackson doesn't appear to have responded to any criticism since 2014. They are not showing any awards for service. They do not display membership of any professional body.

Was about to contact this sgent with aim to look at properties to buy. Having read so many negative comments I think I should avoid at all costs. They sound less professional than many London agents!

I couldn't agree more about regretting researching about them before hand, as their reviews are just awful. They have the worst attitudes and disregard for their customers.

Amie, We are as horrified by this intrusion as you are, please accept our sincere apologies. We use an external specialist company to carry our our inspections, this is primarily for the tenants benefit as the report from an independent person is more readily accepted by both sides in case of dispute. Hi Ana, I had to call you twice yesterday so you've acted on it, until 3pm I haven’t heard anything from you. I also was a landlord with this company and also experience the same . Continual late payments from MJ, always chasing them for our money or to follow up on other issues. MJ himself contacted and rarely answered correspondence. Filed a complaint with the letting ombudsman and MJ were even late with the payment they awarded to me . Would suggested all landlords who have problems with this company take thier cases to the ombudsmen, MJ might then start paying the landlords on time and listening ...
