"*". After months and months of looking in a very competitive market, we finally found our dream house that was unfortunately being marketed by Greenfields. We made an initial offer and were told that we were coming it at around the same the same price as another buyer. We were asked to have our best and final bids in on the Monday, so we increased our offer by 10k and received the phone call the next day to say that our offer had been accepted. We were ecstatic. Then two hours later we received a phone call to say that the other potential buyers had gone round to the vendors house and offered them 10k more to reject our offer. I was devastated, but didn't blame the agents as it wasn't their fault- how naive I was. When I rang my mother in law in tears over the loss she said that it sounded a bit fishy, seeing as vendors sign a contract to say that all offers have to go via the agents. She went in to speak to the manager, a first class liar with a rotten attitude, only to be told that 'your daughter in law must be mistaken, we never told her that'. So the long and short of it, they knowingly guzumped us after sealed bids, then tried to put the blame on the other buyers to save themselves from looking bad, then when caught out, tried to deflect the blame on to me.
To add insult to injury, they told us that they were taking on another property across the road from the house we lost out on and would get us in for an early viewing to make up for the appalling way in which they treated us- it never happened. When I rang to enquire about when they would be arranging the viewing, the disgrace of a manager continued to lie to me about the price it would be coming on at and said we would just have to attend the open day.
A total disgrace and by far the worst experience we have had with any estate agents- which says a lot! They don't seem to have any concept, or morals, for how their despicable actions affect peoples lives. An extra £100 commission for them completely shattered our dreams of buying our family home. Total scum.
