Peter Barry Estate Agents was established in North London in 1983. Since then, the agency has grown considerably and in 2000 we have introduced a chartered surveyor department. Our estate agent office is located in Winchmore Hill and we cover the surounding areas of Palnmers Green, Southgate, Bush Hill park,

Enfield and surrounding areas of North London.

We requested the final contract from this agency several times before they sent it last Thursday. There were fundamental changes from the draft contract and Tenancy Guide that we signed. We are used to dealing with a property agent who is clear and straightforward, and we were not happy to make a deal with an agent who changes the contract nine days before making a big step such as moving house. This was very inconvenient for us and we consider the agent untrustworthy. We did not reach an agreement and did not sign the contract. This would have not happened if the terms of the contract were clear from the beginning.

I am still trying to process what happened. I saw a property which was of interest. Got a call from a Bulent to arrange a viewing . Throughout this, I can not fault Bulent's face to face skills and telephone skills.

I liked the property put a offer. LL request to see me. We met at the house LL asks when I am intending on moving, I explained I am looking to find tenants for my property, so around two weeks . LL nodded and confirmed he understood . Bulent seemed to acknowledge that also understood . All this happened a few days before the Easter period .

After Easter get a email from a Caroline with a form to sign. Also a brief explanation upon me transferring week deposit will receive a email to comply credit check.

I sent signed form and also a email with further queries . Email not responded to .

In between this (talking days not weeks) I suffered a few personal problems. So may not have been able to jump at the demand of LL.

I transfer my money . I email Caroline asking when I shall receive form re: credit check . No reply.

In between this I get a call from Bulent suggesting there are others interested in property . Won't say was rude however unnecessary. The urgency appears to be now that the LL wants to personally see my documents .

I don't drive, my husband is a gas engineer so his time is unpredictable. Husband goes to office with docs, office shut . So I text Bulent I shall attend . I don't manage to attend as I am home with three year old and four year old.

Husband manages to return to office when they are open . Drops docs . Told LL wants to see them so they don't give him original back.

This is getting long winded . However anytime husband calls office no call back. No one responds to calls.

After all this , after text messages ignored . Say before I am told
Need to sign tenancy, told the landlord does not feel comfortable with me as I am not responsive !

I am disgusted , not because LL does not see me suitable as that's his choice .

I am disgusted as I am not a child , I run around as much as I could my time wasted .

My husband is busy so his time wasted .

Shocking how a potential tenant was treated . I have personally worked in various roles from social housing to private and would not dream of wasting anyone's time .

I have spent time getting my home ready to market rushing as I assumed the LL was serious !

Really bad communication from the so called property manager as well. Office is poorly manned .

Bulent to be fair once he returns calls is very courteous.

Not sure about the work ethics as the experience I had was the LL is above the ethics of the agent. How unprofessional that a LL demand to go thru a persons personal paper work is acceptable .

After all that to be told sorry you are not responsive !

It was the worst check out procedure of a tenant.
No notices as given to us that the tenant was leaving for over 1 month and I only found out from the tenant
Two boxes of kitchen equipment and a bed side cabinet was missing but checked off on the inventory as being there on exit. The deposit withheld for 3 light bulbs. I then did the check myself otherwise I would not have known. When I complained they insisted the equipment was there. A lie or incompetence either way we would not use them again.

The worst experience ever with an estate agent. They lied on numerous occasions and even when they were confronted by myself and the seller of the property I was buying they still lied even though the evidence was to the contrary. E.g. I was told there wasn't a chain where there was a 5+ chain. In the end I had to liase directly with the seller to get honest answers. Appalling. If I could give less than 1 star I would.

Fees were decent. I liked the fact that as I am currently not working I did not have to pay a reference fee as my husband did. But they simply credit checked me. Most estate agents will charge for every little thing. Very reasonable.
