I have let 8 properties with Penny Lane Homes in Renfrew in the last year. Andy and his team have always offered great service, input and assistance. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and I regularly do. I know of other landlords who also use Penny Lane in Renfrew and are equally as happy. The staff are very friendly and respond to tenant enquiries very quickly. I have also taken out payment protection insurance following their credit referencing process....

Comment on agent fees
The fees are very fair, straightforward and cash is transacted back to me (landlord) quickly.

Tries to go a roundabout way to get ‚£50+VAT credit check fees which are ILLEGAL AND UNLAWFUL in Scotland. Use Let Alliance to get around this issue, i.e. force you to fill out and buy a credit check, but Let Alliance's website clearly states that fees above ‚£26.00 are CREDITED to the landlord, i.e. they ARE taking fees illegally. Staff member Kara was very rude on phone and lied saying they don't get any money from it - they do....

Most fees chargeable to tenants are illegal in Scotland, all tenants are offered the ability to provide their own references in order to satisfy the landlord, most tenants are unable to provide an up to date employer reference, landlords reference, credit report, proof of address for the last 3 years, 3 months bank statements within a reasonable time frame and therefor have the CHOICE to pay a third party to obtain and compile this information for them. All tenants are given this choice in writ....

Just discovered online that my neighbour's house which was identical to mine, sold for £13000 more with a better known estate agent two weeks prior to my house being sold. . Made the mistake of giving this guy the bottom price I'd accept and boy did he use it to his full advantage. To add insult to injury, I'd given this guy an expensive sofa that i no longer needed that he'd shamelessly asked me for. Don't touch this estate agent with a bargepole!!!...

Every vendor has a different level of acceptable price sale, the job of the agent is to find you a buyer that you are happy with. Presumably you have accepted an offer of selling your house which at the time you were happy with, its not the agents fault that the neighbor may have sold for more, its very common for houses in the same street to differ in value of the land register due to many factors including the condition of the property and the financial position of the seller.....

This agency is a joke. They fail to keep records of any issues tenants bring to them, they change their staff so often that details of things get lost. Their staff have no knowledge of tenants rights. They tell you you have no right to do something without actually knowing if you do or don't. They fail to keep up with repairs in a timely manner. Over two years to deal with a mould issue. They have no customer service or complaint handling skills unless you count shouting at people and calling th...

Unfortunately It's not uncommon in this industry for staff turnover to be high as the agent down the road who charges clients higher fees will see ready trained staff as easy pickings, this is of course frustrating for customers and the agents always do their best on training new members. The number 1 cause of a breakdown in communication between tenant-agent-landlord is a lack of written correspondence, providing that you email or write when reporting issues to the agent there should be no rea....

I have rented from few different vendors in the last few years but have never dealt with such an ameturish bunch purporting to be professionals having paid the deposit and first months rent we then had to pay for an electrician and a plumber to carry out repairs and we are still waiting to be repaid do not rent from this shower of jokers...

It would have been better if agent could be contacted and paid for repairs instead of having to pay for it with no chance of claiming monies for repairs

A common misconception is that the agent is the landlord, they are not. The job of the agent is to take landlords instructions and carry them out to the best of their abilities. If you had paid for works on behalf of the landlord and had already reported them in writing you may have right to reclaim them from rental. This agent provides each tenant who moves into a rented property in with a tenant information pack which informs the tenant of their rights in respect of repairs required, I woul....

Terrible service to tenants. Will charge you for anything and everything if possible. The vast majority of these charges are illegal under the Housing Act. Do not recommend these agents at all unless you enjoy being the victim of daylight robbery. Disgraceful. Furthermore, they take excessive amounts of time to process applications for short term tenancies....

Penny Lane Homes (Johnstone) Ltd don't make any charges to tenants, the legislation was clarified a couple of years ago and it is illegal to charge some fees to tenants. They can only take landlords instructions in respect of accepting tenants into their property and application forms are processed as soon as possible given the above, the speed of references depends on how quickly the applicant employer/s and previous landlord reply to reference requests.....
