The initial contact with John German was very positive, right up until the first day of tenancy, the viewing and application process all went smoothly. Having got the first load of items in the rental van to the new house, I went to the office at the per-arranged time to pick up the keys was where it all started to go wrong. I waited and met the correct person, "so Sir, how are you going to pay the security deposit and first months rent?". We had already transferred this as requested...

Given the timescales mentioned it appears this tenancy may have originally been set up via the John German Lettings business. However, the John German Lettings and Management business was sold to Countrywide PLC in November 2013 and any issues arising since that date, which would include the check out and viewings with potential new tenants, were the responsibility of Countrywide PLC. We wish to make clear this review has no bearing on the continuing Residential Sales business of John German.....

Very unprofessional and incompetent Did not pass on important information - no apologies given for this, I had to ring them constantly (when they answered the phone) Full of lies - told the landlord one thing and us another Money grabbing - wouldn't give itemised bills and we paid a large fee for referencing but later found out that they hadn't even contacted the referees!...

John German work only in the the interests of the landlord and not the tenant. We had to go for over a week with no heating or hot water when the boiler broke. We were told that it was not urgent and the delay was because they couldn\'t get hold of the landlord. Then the landlord allegedly wanted to get their own people on to it. We had given notice on the property to buy our own home which I think added it their reluctance to fix it. Eventually a repair man came and told us that the whole syste...

avoid at all costs. These are a TERRIBLE estate agents. The staff (most, not all) are rude. We have had a broken gutter for a year and a half AND a leaking roof for 3 years (although it was partially fixed). It took us 6 months for them to sort out the roof with the landlord AND they lied about it to begin with. Basically with the roof, we reported it as soon as we noticed, within a couple of days we heard nothing so we rang them and we were told to deal with it because the landlord could...

just to add more info on this lot. today, 19/02/14 we had a call from them DEMANDING. Yes DEMANDING we pay another £25 for a reference. Despite already paying they claim we are lying. Even though we have 2 different kinds of proof. 1. bank statement. 2. our new estste agents have on file the reference they already gave. Needless to say we told them whats what. Also, We specifically told them as from the 18th myself and my partner would be in hospital as we have a new baby. Was C sectio....

Where do I start. If there was an avoid at all costs button I would have pressed it. Firstly, when we signed up they were lovely, took our deposit and then it all went down hill! We moved in and soon found out that we had no heating. Reported this straight away and were told that we weren\'t a priority as we had an electric fire in the living room. Didn\'t matter that the house had been empty and I was pregnant, we had to wait 4 days! We didn\'t have a garage key so had a complete nightmare st...

Lived in the property for 2 years plus. It was cold, damp and needed a lot of work to bring it up to the rental of £995 per month. On leaving the rep from Germans Emma criticised everything. She even said I had peed on the radiator. "xxx". She was rude and incompetent to say the least. The landlord even suggested I had broken the front door. I don\'t think so the door swelled when it was wet and you couldn\'t get in or out. I replaced the handle 5 times. All in all a nightmare. L...

Ms Fuller was disgruntled because we found that she had been smoking in a non smoking property and this was noted on the check out report. The landlord had to have the carpets cleaned and wallreprisinged to eliminate the cigarette odour throughout. We would not use the word 'peed' however as the radiator front situated to the side of the guest w/c was very rusty and soiled I explained that it looked like urine splashes could have caused this to happen, obviously from when males using the to....

I used this agent after a recommendation from another agent as I wanted multiple agents. I can only assume they recommended these solely to try and make them look better They found my buyer after just 1 week, excellent but from then on, the service I received was shocking. Did not pass on important information, did not phone when they said they would, ignored my instructions, acted more for the buyer than myself, tried to use emotional blackmail to get me to reduce the price, behaved in an ex...

Arranged a viewing of a property in Uttoxeter through John German earlier this year. Travelled up from London on the day to be told by the homeowner on arrival that the house had been sold two days earlier. Spoke to John German and they said they had forgotten to call and tell me. The lady I spoke to gave a half-hearted apology but just blamed someone else. Very poor organisation, wasted my time and money. Also around the same time I logged an online enquiry for a property through their Ash...

If I could rate this branch less than terrible i would! I have found atleast 90% of the staff to be so disinterested an frankly about as useful as a chocolate teapot from the very second we sighted our tenancy agreement infact the lady who assisted with this was extremely rude and seemed pretty annoyed we had dared to bother her that day. One of the main factors with this shambles of a company being the lack of communication amongst them I reported a leaking tap and 6 months later they sent a...

I have recently moved out of my property let by John German from what was an all together rocky experience. At the beginning of our tenancy the oven broke for which JG stated that landlord would not replace, making me buy one, once we had moved into the fridge/freezer also broke for which again we were told the landlord would not replace. Thus again putting us out of pocket. (one of the reasons we moved into the property was the inclusion of white goods). We re-decorate the whole house and had...

I found a property for my son to let and had to pay the £200 admin fee up front. Unfortunately my son failed the credit check and despite us offering to pay the six months lease in one go, my son was declined. No problem at least we would get £150 back. Having paid the £200 by debit card i expected that the refund would be returned via the same method. This apparently is not the way that John German do business. I was told by a member of their staff that a cheque would be poste...

We were trying to purchase a property advertised by John German, and had our offer accepted after several rejections. At that point the sales person congratulated us, telling us the property was ours and they would take it down off the various websites immediately. Up until this point everything was fine. Then the following day we receive a call saying another offer, above our had been received and accepted by the vendor and would we want to counter offer. To my surprise I discovered they wer...

I consider JG the least professional and least transparent agent I have dealt with in the past. In particular, JG - makes the check-in of the property without the tenants being present and then demands that the tenants hand in the new/revised inventory in their branch without acknowledging in writing its receipt. Ultimately, there is no proof that the tenants handed in a revised inventory in case JG lost it. - They remove/add items to the property during the tenancy and do not update the re...

Hi RL, I work in the Uttoxeter/Ashbourne branches at John German and I am concerned with your comments. Were you a Uttoxeter or Ashbourne tenant? Would you email me with your details so that I can look into this for you; you are allowed to have a copy of the invoices with regards to any cleaning/damage that is to be deducted from your deposit. We also also endeavour to visit the property for the check out on the day the tenancy expires unless this falls on a sunday or bank holiday, ....

As a landlord of multiple properties, I have been in the rental business for approximately 15 years. Finding a consistently good letting agent is notoriously difficult. For the last seven years I have used the John German Uttoxeter and Burton offices, and they have been outstanding. The staff are friendly, diligent and timely in their communications. Properties are usually let very quickly, at the best rates that can be achieved in the prevailing market. Whenever property or tennant issues ...

They don't mind telling you complete lies - In the proces of renting a property there were things that i had arranged with the land lord to add to the lease and they told me that the land lord had specifically asked them not to put it on the tenancy agreement, having spoken to the land lord i find this to be completely untruthful and they refused to add extra terms to the lease even after his instruction meaning we had to draw up a seperate agreement privately between the landlord and ourselves ...

I find John German's property management team friendly and reliable. They charge an extortionate amount of money to draw up a new contract, but maybe that's the case of all estate agents. There is a lettings rep called ****** who works at the West Bridgford branch who is an extremely patronising old trout, so be sure to avoid her. Admin note: agent's name was removed...

By far the worst estate agent I've ever used and I had been renting for many many years. Their customer service is abysmal and they are very slow to get back to you when there are issues. I have had to wait up to a month before for a call back over problems I had with a property. They will also make every attempt to withhold as much as of the deposit money as is possible without proper proof of why they are doing so. Having managed to speak to the landlord direct about this she notified...

Myself and my partner are having the same problems. Moved into the house in march this year, in april we reported the downstairs heaters give off fumes and the roof leeks (leaks?) it is now october and still nothing has been done despite ringing almost every week. To make thing worse they know we have a baby and coming up to winter we need both problems doing. We sent them a letter threatening to contact environmental health if things dont get done by the end of the month. They sent a letter bac....

I have been trying to sell my property for 2 years without success. So last September I asked Germans to let it over the winter. Bad idea. Germans put tennants in, never did a check and left the property in an horrendous state. I had to replace a carpet which was brand new previously and the whole of the upstairs needed decorating, which was also newly decorated beforehand and the decorator they used was absolutely useless.I had to do a touch up of his incompetance. Initially it was agreed that...
