Typical Estate Agents in all their glory. Very quick to demand money and not do the work. It took 3 attempts to get our renewal right, all they had to do was put the correct names on, which we had to pay 100 for. Then they voided it 2 weeks after us signing, they didn't even call us, just sent us an automated email before he left for the day. We knew there was a chance we wouldn't be there long as an Estate Agent turned up later on the day we renewed to do a valuation but we thought ...

Possibly the worst estate agents I have ever used. They sent around a very personable sales person who promised the earth, kept in touch and was exceedingly helpful but disappeared the minute we signed the contract. After that a junior in the office who hadn't even visited our house appeared to be looking after our sale. Ahead of signing we were assured that anyone who conducted viewings would be familiar with the house. This wasn't the case and there was a different person for each viewin...

By far the worst agent I have ever rented through. We were deceived from the start by the agent who persuaded us to agree to a 6 month break clause as the landlord always wants a 6 month break clause and didn't know us as tenants. We told the agent that we were looking for at least 18 months as we were expecting our first baby. Four months into the tenancy we were served a S21 notice as the landlord had decided to sells property. When we spoke to our neighbours they told us that before we moved ...

John D Wood have been absolutely shocking in their treatment of the residents of our property. Contractors frequently arrive to the house with their own key with no warning. In effect, it's just some random men or women letting themselves in. We have reported this to John D Wood numerous times and they do not care. The house also failed the HMO and John D Wood have been in no way proactive about getting the repairs carried out. Our kitchen is dangerous as the cupboards and broken and the oven is...

John D Wood sold our house earlier this year. Most of their staff, while very pleasant, are young and inexperienced which means that when things go wrong they aren't really able to advise you. The manager Jonathan was also incredibly rude to almost everyone in the process when he got involved at the end, to the point that the other agents involved in the deal refused to deal with him. Our sale fell through, and despite requests to act as quickly as possible they were amazingly slow to remarket...

We have had a leak coming down into our flat from the above apartment. once we notified John D Wood it took them almost 3 months to come and look at the problem. In the meantime they blamed us for the contractors not turning up. When the contractors turned they wiped down the mold and painted it over with stain proof paint. we were informed that if the mold returned it would be due to a permanently damaged ceiling and that it would have to be changed. Consequently the following 6 months there...

1st, Actually send someone qualified to check out the mold issues instead of a plumber who knocks on the ceiling and says it is just fine. 2nd, not to judge us before having the facts about what is going on. 3rd, to fix the problem. It is highly dangerous for an asthmatic to live and breathe in mold. the complete disregard for other humans well being is complete and is just disgusting

Having had an offer accepted pending references and having dealt with friendly and helpful staff (James & Alexia) we then had the unfortunate experience of having to speak to the 'Lettings manager' Shoeni Oates. She was abrupt, rude, unprofessional and aggressive. This was in stark contrast to the customer service we had so far received and we were left feeling very upset after the call. She was unable to politely express herself or indeed explain the referencing situation we had called for ...

I must say that I agree with all of the other reviewers, Very dissatisfied with non existent service of Kat Mitchell, the letting manger. She always says that she will chase up a problem with no result. Email responses are non existent and phone calls are only returned if you rattle the head office or area manager Dean Loughnane (Bournemouth office). Dreadful company that used to be good but has changed a lot.....probably as a result of those demon Venture Capital Investors. Basically this is now based on a similar business model to that other company that has all the minis (but probably worse). They were given our property to market for rental and did find a tenant, but worked out to be totally unsuitable. This mis-match was for both sides and was obviously driven by getting the sale and not that both tenant and landlord would be happy. ...

As a landlord, my experience has been very similar to the previous review. Since a change of staff (Ian Woodhouse left the Lymington office) e-mails are simply ignored and not answered. 6 weeks ago I instructed John D Wood to return the tenant's deposit in full. It took over a month, and a complaint to the managing director, before i even had a reply. The deposit has still not been returned. As I am legally liable for the return of the deposit to the tenant, I am having to consider embarking ...

Multiple errors on the lease agreement after requesting a simple extension to push the rent due date to the 29th of each month. No ability to negotiate an unfair, landlord heavy lease as after requesting a copy of the lease weeks in advance, only received it a few days before leaving the UK on a holiday and so bullied into accepting it unchanged if I didnt want to be homeless and lose the exorbitant fees and the deposit that I had already paid. Now told the lease is still wrong and I owe an extr...

Negotiated the lease in an open, fair and reasonable way. Not delayed the release of the lease to myself to allow me to review despite multiple requests. Followed simple instructions and requests and check their work before releasing multiple incorrect versions of the lease for agreement. Once mistake in calculation identified, write a full apology and requesting politely that I agree the requested amendment. Ultimately pay the shortfall now due to the landlord through their incompetence and apologise for the harassment, threatening emails and bullying tactics.
Comment on agent fees
Above average, charged for production of the lease but did not accept any requested amendments so not sure what exactly I paid for other than simply populating a word document with addresses, dates and amounts which they didnt even manage to do correctly.

John D Wood in weybridge have been fabulous right up until the point we started dealing with returning the 8 week deposit and one months overpaid rent. The overpaid rent was my mistake but it could very easily be returned without fuss. It is now 4 weeks and we are in serious mental distress at not having the £3500 that is owed to us. John D Wood is the most incompetent, unprofessional " agent I have ever come across - and I used to be an office agent for 2 years! She has made a complete mountain out of a mole hill and is trying to extract extortionate and unfair fees from a tragic situation, which has resulted in a early termination. I would advise anyone looking to rent a house (or landlord for that matter) to use anyone in preference to John D Wood in Battersea. They do the minimum possible. Emails to the property manager go un-answered. On top of that, we have had 3 different property managers as our contacts during our tenancy which started 6 months ago (high staff turnover is not exactly a sign of a happy company is it?). They are happy to let the property deteriorate to such a point that we had to get into conta...

I contacted John D Wood in Battersea as prospective renter. At first she seemed pleasant and asked me a lot of details about my search. I have had a very positive experience using John D Wood. As a single person selling the family home I was quite daunted but from the very first contact, by telephone, the greeting was polite and business-like. I have been renting my flat with John D Wood for the last 4 years. Like most managing agents, they have been pretty useless but happy to pocket their 15% Management Commission from me for frankly not a lot. Anyway, my main gripe came as a result of the tenant making me an offer to buy the property. The price was attractive and we struck a deal. I have the worst experience with John D Wood estate agency!! To start with they charge me an agency fee of £275 (plus VAT) to check my references -and I know they have NOT checked anything! It would appear that most reviews are left when someone has a gripe so i hope the reader will view this positive review as something exceptional. It seems to be open season on estate agents generally and in a lot of cases quite rightly so. However our experience with john d wood is a pleasant and refreshingly professional one. I rented my house through JDW and then received an offer from the tenant who wanted to acquire the property. As it happens, we were thinking of selling up. We agreed the terms of the sale on a private basis and then the sale was concluded. About a month after the sale I received a call from JDW seeking a commission of 1.50% of the sale consideration. Terrible experience with JDW in Battersea. After the tenant moved in, I did not receive rent for the first 3 months as they took their fee up front. This was the first that I knew about this and however much I raised this issue, I hit a brick wall.
