Had £727 deducted from my deposit despite handing the house back in excellent condition as confirmed by the check out report. The deduction was made up of excessive charges for minor issues which I valued at £150 in total, there was no negotiation. Well what can I say other than these people are thieves. Out of my £1,800 which I had given this robbing company all I got back was £600! The landlord was an absolute joke, never kept his side of the agreement to which was the only reason why I went ahead and rented. This estate agent really doesn care less about their clients....it's all about the money. And I would advice having decent landlords/landladys because otherwise they will just add to your already bad name and reputation...

Hamptons has been an absolute nightmare to deal with. They do not advocate for tenants in any way, are extremely unresponsive, and let problems with the property linger - at times for months longer than it should if it was dealt with properly. I would never rent a property from Hamptons again....

I spoke to these Agents on 3 separate occasions and emailed them a week after each telephone call to confirm my request for them to manage my property. I have not received a response to all 6 communications over a period of a month. Why would I have them manage my property if they can't get the common courtesies right? Richard Day could have been less aggressive and rude and just done his job in order to secure a sale. The others in the office had always been friendly if somewhat distracted at times. I needed my estate agents to work for their client and help me at this very stressful time. They chose not to.

There are always two sides to any situation, but from our part we accept that Hamptons would not describe the property as a 3 bedroom property, as it was deemed that we would be mis-describing the property's accommodation as one bedroom was downstairs leading from the kitchen, furthermore I accept I did advise the client not to reduce the Guide Price, as the viewing numbers were consistent and we are not in the habit of forcing prices down. ...

We had the same experience as another reviewer on this site in that they booked the checkout day later than needed so as to get an extra day's rent from us, we only realised this when they sent us the bill. The company are crooks. They throw away charges and then after threatening them with legal action, reduce costs escalating up to £400 to £0. I am apuld and disgusted at the service provided by Hamptons International. I would never recommend them to anyone and will be dropping by the property after vaccating to inform them that will never see their deposit again - As I certainly won\'t. We had a very similar issue, only we we moved into the property and then where asked to "leave" as we had a dog. Then they tried to say we had left the place in a mess and it needed clean etc etc. We went to the DPS as we had a company professionally clean and paint after we moved out and they tried to take more than £1700 off us but in the end where reward £2.99 for a lightbulb which didn't work. I found Hamptons to be excellent. I interviewed four local agents before choosing Hamptons and am glad I made the right choice. My opinion, and experience during the sale, were that Luke and his colleagues Adrian and Alex were friendly, absolutely professional, gave me excellent advice on presenting the house and managed the process well. Overall I was happy with Hamptons during the duration of my tenancy. The main reason why I scored them down was due to the sometimes slow communication (I realises that this may have been as a result of slow communication from the Landlord). I have been using this service for five years now and have the service beyond criticism. Elliott McMahon is currently looking after the management of my home while I am working for the British Forces overseas and his attention to detail is excellent. Lee Scowen has managed the 3 properties for 2 years. Lee is very proactive and deals with queries as soon as they are received; Lee never has any outstanding points. Lee is firm but fair with tenants, contractors and me, and takes pride in getting a good result. Lee is the best property manager that I have had so far with Hamptons and I hope he continues to manage my properties for many years to come....

We have been using Hamptons to rent our family home since moving to San Francisco in Jan 2011. They are very experienced in the lettings market and have always been incredibly professional. Melissa Daddow in the Haywards Heath office is always quick to respond to enquires/problems from our tenants and keeps us well informed - which can be difficult with an 8 hour time difference. I was sceptable at first about proceeding on the full management basis but have to say it was the best decision I had made. When there are problems that need fixing or good communication when living abroad I have found that Hamptons have been quick to respond and clear when communicating. They have been able to sort out anything from a leaking tap to a whole new bathroom. They have access to some great contractors, checked work and made sure the project was completed quickly and in budget. I couldn't have rented so successfully without them....

What agent could do to change your mind?
Be more responsive in terms of managing the property that they are being paid to manage. Take care of long standing issues related to the property.
