Very slow to answer emails. Poor quality control visits. when asked for a break down of the annual expenditure the conversation became very passive aggressive and defensive towards me. after over a month of multiply emails I am still trying to get this from them. bordering on dishonest and are anything but forthcoming...

Rented a flat in Fratton park area - when keys were handed over to me, I was notified of a potential leak in the bathroom, which Cosgroves wanted me to sort out by liaising with the building company assigned to evaluate the problem. Both the company and agent failed to communicate, leaving the leak to progress during the rainy season. Eventually, a lethagic Cosgrove response prompted me to write to the Landlord directly, which got the ball rolling. overall, the repair work lasted 4 months, and i...

Cosgroves have managed our flat for 10 years, and in that time we have found them to be efficient, helpful and approachable. They have dealt with minor problems and repairs promptly, and have contacted us to ask our permission before carrying out more expensive ones. We receive regular reports on the state of the property, which we find reassuring. Most of our tenants have stayed for long periods and, as far as we know, have had no problems in their dealings with Cosgroves....

I would like to bring a little balance to some of the negative reviews i have seen recently posted.firstly i have often found this company friendly and helpful.they are not without shortcomings but i have often found them to be a company that i could negotiate with.they often approach landlord tenant issues with more than a modicum of common sense and some considerable experience. i would, and do recommend them to other people. i think with any professional relationship it is always better to ...

Our experience with Cosgroves has been extremely negative. The main reason is that they are completely inept in what they do. We realised that from very beginning when, after paying the first rent to the landlord, we got a letter informing me of a "late rent" fee. They were unspeakably rude on the phone when I tried to explain that I had done exactly what the contract stipulated, but as it turned out, they managed to mis-read their own contract and were later reluctantly obliged to apo...

This is the worst letting and estate agent I have had the misfortune to have dealings with. Myself, my partner and our 6 month old son moved into a property in good faith and immediately had to report broken panes of glass, missing door handles, broken locks and a great degree of other issues. After a week or so more we found a number of dangerous elements to the house including exposed wiring and missing or broken fire alarms. When I politely requested all issues be fixed I was told by Kar...

We would like to publish the response from Portsmouth City Council Housing Standards: - Hi Chris Thank you for this email, I went back to Cosgroves officeÒ€ℒs yesterday after our meeting and had a chat with Brendan the owner, so hopefully any animosity will be cleared up. As I said yesterday, in my opinion Cosgroves are one of the best agents in the city, and we rarely receive complaints against them, and any complaint that is received is usually dealt with in a prompt curious manner. A....

After our house was broken into, the police officer advised us that our door was not safe and we should have a deadlock installed, so I called the agency and they said that we would have to pay for the new lock as the current locks were considered by them to be sufficient. Clearly not as someone was able to break into our house. I am in my late 20s and this is the first time I\'m giving a bad review as I\'m a very patient person, but I find their response disgusting. Other than that their respon...

I just feel that this particular agency has only the interest of the landlords in mind. We have not felt that they are willing or interested to deal with our issues at any point.

It\'s not just the students they rip off - it\'s other tenants and landlords too! I don\'t even know where to begin: I\'ve lived in the property for a year and have only JUST had a smoke alarm fitted. I went without hot water and heating for 9 nine days because they refused to call out an emergency electrician. When they finally did send someone it was a gasman (I live in an all electric flat!) I have had faulty lighting which took them over 3 months and several e-mails to fix. Because it i...

As 5 students moving into our new house we expected it to be clean, also boasting about the fact that we'd have a dishwasher which to this day has still not been fixed. Upon moving in sinks and sides were dirty and the carpet smelt damp for weeks. This was just the first of our experiences with Cosgroves. We then experience things such as our hall light completely falling from the ceiling, cupboard doors breaking off and a leaking toilet all of which needed to be sorted immediately but when I ra...

Compromising now and again, perhaps a level of understanding because by acting the way you have we would never rent from you again and bad word of mouth is the worst thing for a business

Cosgroves have gone out of their way to be rude and unhelpful. All we were expecting was a clean apartment to move in to, they could not provide this, and made it out to be our fault for moving in, please if you insist on using them, make sure and check the place you intent to move into again before handing over any money, to make sure all they say will be done, is done, once they get their money, they will not do any more. Avoid using them if at all possible. They made a simple move very stress...

My friends are using them and wish they could get out of the contract. Lucky they have taken some photos of the state of the place that was promised to be in good condition. Don't pay them any money until you see the place in and are will to move in to it. Don't take any promise from them. You will see them on BBC rogue traders soon trust me....

Cosgroves are the first agent in Portsmouth to become accredited to Portsmouth City Council. We maintain a very high standard of Health & Safety in order to remain PCC's most recommended agent. If your claims were true this would not be possible. Please direct any comments to them directly at las@portsmouthcc.gov.uk. We would welcome 'your uncle' if indeed he wishes to talk to us further. Kind regards, Cosgroves.....
