Zero points. Countrywide is the power behind a number of High Street "names". This review is for AUSTIN WYATT in Amesbury Wilts. Countrywide took over what was a small local letting agent, and that is when the service went into freefall. Countrywide/Austin Wyatt service is characterised by three things, all of which appear in many other reviews below: 1: Rip off fees, charges for everything and anything to both landlord and tenant (often for the same thing), money taken in advanc...

So disappointed with the service provided by this company. We explained that white goods were essential for the rental property we were looking for. On viewing a property we were told that the white goods were included. Again before making an offer I asked that they double checked that the white goods were included, and we were once again told they were. On moving in to the property, having already paid large amounts in fees, rent and deposit, there were no white goods present. On calling Austin...

Unfortunately, I'm a tenant with this agent. IF you are a tenant then you are the lowest of the low apparently. These people are out to rip you off and make you feel like you should be grateful to be one of their tenants. I am moving out because I do not like these agents. I like the property but I do not want to be involved with this firm any longer. They are very unprofessional, care only about their fees..The worst agents i have ever rented from. AVOID...

I was on the market with another agent, but hadn't sold. I was repeatedly contacted by Austin and Wyatt who assured me that they could sell my home in a few weeks. I took them on as a joint agent, however in all the time that they were meant to be marketing my property, I received no contact from them. No viewings, no advice or support, no feedback - absolutely nothing. I was originally told that as a joint agent, I would only pay their agency fee if they sold the house, however it transpire...

The worst buying experience ever. Our offer was not presnted to the vendor because we did not agree to use their broker with whom we met but she was quite terrible to be frank. So after we told them we were going to use a different broker their manager phoned us and in arrogant way told us that either we use their broker or they would not present our offer to the seller. So we contacted the seller ourselves and told them about our offer and what happened. And indeed the agency did not present ou...

I can honestly say I have never felt so let down and mugged off by a company in all my life. Me and my girlfriend are renting for the first time and found a really nice house. We got all the way to paying in a holding fee and writing out our references and it was going so well. Then I got a call saying that the house we had really liked is actually not for rent as the landlord has made a private sale. Truly gutting, and one can only assume that was down to a lack of communication between Austin ...

He left the lights on in the three rooms in my house when he was given the key and trusted all would be ok. but four days later when I went back to see the property. three rooms lights were left on! A rather variable experience - took a year to sell property and eventually gave up and sent it to auction. During this time we dealt with a number of different office managers so there was a lack of continuity. Some were better at communicating progress (or lack of it) than others, some had better marketing ideas than others. All were polite but not effective at achieving a sale. I think we were advised to put too high a price on the property initially, which didn't help. I was just lucky I was ...

We chose to sell our property through this agent because we were impressed by the professional approach of Alan Woodhouse. They were excellent at keeping us informed and always returned calls promptly. We were happy with the number of viewings and the feedback we received. Any delays in the sale were mainly due to the solicitors, Countrywide, who are associated with Austin & Wyatt and would not recommend anyone to use them....

Our experience with Austen and Wyatt was excellent. Alan was our main contact and gave us a first class service. In addition every other member of staff knew what was happening with the sale, so the continuity was faultless. Everyone was professional, polite and friendly, and I felt confident at all times that they were doing what they needed to. I never had to remind anyone, and whenever I left a message, it was dealt with promptly. I couldn't have asked for a more personalised, competent, and...

A very disorganised branch with a very high staff turnover. Not helped by the accounts dept being located in India, tenancies being dealt with by a department in the Midlands and an IT system which is constantly crashing. Trying to get queries resolved is very difficult with constant chasing, long delays and staff taking no responsibility. Since Austin & Wyatt (Countrywide) bought the old agent, they have lost over half their properties through bad management and reputation has suffered....

I would really like more space to write my review as they are not nice people to deal with and go back on their promises and frankly are out to make as much money as possible.Their caring approach even goes as far as telling you to rent somewhere or live on a friends settee as they want the sale to go through and not having much help in finding you a property as they said.Infact they tell very little truth my cash buyer turned out a mortgage purchaser,i think that has to do with commission on th...

Worst estate agents ever! Just gone through a month long process in buying my first flat. They told me my offer had been accepted and even though I had my mortgage agreed in principle, they insisted I met with their onsite mortgage broker Bobbi. I waited three weeks for Bobbi to come back to me on anything and have just been told they have accepted another offer even with prior discussion with my mortgage lender. We went in to Austin & Wyatt simply to register so we were on the list for any houses that came up for sale in the Totton area. Initial impressions were great, very helpful staff. But, as soon as we cancelled our mortgage advice meeting that's went it went downhill. They wouldn't take no for an answer so we literally had to hang up the phone. Once a property did become available they wouldn't let us see the property without going for a mortgage meeting! Ridiculous, so needless to say...

This company is an absolute disgrace. We have been tenants for over two years, in that time we have been made to feel like incompetent children who simply don't matter. We are both working professionals who have rented for a number of years and have never defaulted. I reported an issue with the paint starting to peel on some of the walls, this is a result of cheap paint, I was told that I shouldn't clean or scrub the walls so hard. I have yet to meet someone who regularly washes their wal...

Treat tenants like functioning human beings, people rent because they have to not because they are utter scum. It is not a class war, we are people too. Don\'t say you will do something and then fail. In short don\'t lie. Don\'t threaten people with debt collection when you have received the payment for rent, also when this has been proven - have the good grace to apologise. The best thing you could do is to cease being a letting agent.

This company took over from the clowns known as WSB Properties, so they had a real up hill struggle to fix the many errors they created. It has been tough and I was about to take my business elsewhere. But then all of a sudden they sack all the staff and wastes of space, and get this new team in. The new lettings manager, such a nice bloke (ex navy too so had good training in management), he just filled me with confidence, and the new lettings girl let my property the day it came on, and the new...

WSB was acquired by Countrywide long before the name changed to Austin & Wyatt and all the staff resigned! We were told we could no longer use our contractors unless they signed an agreement with Countrywide that they would add 12% to their invoices. This is always passed to the landlord. The 'line' we had to use was that this was an agreement directly between the contractor and the agent and that we don't ask or expect them to pass on that fee! A fee of £25 is also added to the landlord....

The general contents of the contract, knowledge and attitude of the staff is appalling. Not only did they charge me £80 and not carry out for an inventory check for it, but they also argued that I was supposed to effectively to conduct a self inventory and complete the form for them. The document I received was the previous tenants inventory document with the dates tipexed out. Arguments back and forth regarding this covered comments from Austin & Wyatt to the effect that "The &p...

I had a very bad experience with them today. I went to see an apartment which I really liked, was supposed to move there with my sister and we were both really excited. I was told later into the day that the property was given to someone else even though I was first to see it and agreed to take it. I was shocked when I heard... was a really heavy blow, wasn't expecting it. I hope you will be more lucky then me. Personally I wouldn't recommend them to anyone after what happened to me....

I have terminated our contract with this agent after an appalling 2 months. At the first point of contact, I was told "we have sold one in this block, and have plenty of people interested. It will sell within a fortnight." It took nearly 2 weeks to get the property on the market, and this was chased repeatedly. The description was very basic considering the fee charged in comparison to other agents. The sole focus of the manager seemed to be selling us his conveyancing package, whi...

Awful, incompetent staff. "Lost" rent payments then sent us a letter from a debt collection agency stating if it wasnt paid in 7 days we would be taken to court for money owed to the tune of £1300! Upon receiving proof of payment from us via bank statements they then retracted this with no apology, only saying they just dont know where the money has gone. Our landlord, presumably as sick of this company as we are, has now taken steps to remove all of his properties from A&W ...

I completely agree with this, Luke. As a current tenant (unfortunately) they have zero respect and a complete disregard for us. We had the EXACT same problem with a rental payment that Countrywide had lost, again with no apology once it was mysteriously 'found'. In fact, they blamed it on me not using the correct reference. A & W never gave us a reference. The communication in their small office is beyond appalling and all of the staff that we've spoken to are curt and arrogant. They only c....
