Allan & Harris are not proactive, and do not follow sales through once they have found a buyer. They don't keep other parties informed and are bad at communicating with other agents and solicitors. If you use them your purchase / sale with take much longer and me much more stressful....

The customer service is appalling. The pre-arranged survey was also appalling, as they did not bother to turn up and when I telephoned them, they told me a different date on the phone to the one they booked and sent a text confirmation on. They also told me that the tenant telephoned them to cancel it, yet I am the owner selling the house and I had arranged the survey with them. Plus, there were two properties and I do not know why they cancelled the meeting on both on the saying of one of th...

The worst experience I have EVER had with renting a property! Rude and aggressive staff! Had us move into a property that had not been cleaned, it still had loads of the previous tenant's furniture and personal items, discovered various health and safety problems with the flat ....such as no carbon monoxide detector, loose water piper in hall way and damp everywhere! Have now been told we will have first weeks rent refunded but only after having major rows with manager of Bath branch and repor...

calamitous. Wrong description to accompany the wrong photos was the starting point. The honesty of I just guessed what to say as i hadn't seen the property was refreshing. Viewings were arranged, re-arranged, cancelled and then came out of the blue without notice, usually with the viewers arriving before the agent. Personal favourite was the Branch Manager who wanted to come over to discuss some 'new ideas'. He didn't turn up, but apologised the next day saying his phone battery died, unfortunat...

We had a negative experience with a different Agency before, and as first time buyers, really didn't know what to expect. It was a lengthy and complicated process but Moira and Jessica (and the entire Team) looked after us from day 1. Every time we had a 'roadblock' it was dealt with professionally, with empathy and a solution was immediately found. I can't thank the Team in Wallingford enough and I have recommended them to friends who needed an Agent. I can't praise Allen & Harris enough a...

Shockingly poor levels of communication and service. Having been charged £180 by A&H for "marketing" they appear to be unable to get even the basics right when advertising the property, being sold for example whether the property is detached or semi....and what the correct price is! Agents carrying out viewings are ill prepared sometimes late, and sometimes don't turn up at all ("oh ...did we forget to tell you that the viewing had been cancelled"?) In house communi...

I wouldn't recommend this agent to my worst enemy. I have been in the rental market for almost 15 years and I have never come across such a dishonest and deceitful agency. If you ever decide to rent a property through this agent, please be advised that; First, they will sell your personal details to third parties without telling you who will pester you with telephone and email spam (an average of 3 calls/email per day). And second, they will switch your electricity and gas supplier to a compa...

After an excellent start in finding a tenant, a service conducted by the local team, the service declined quickly. The management through Sequence Home, based in Cardiff, was hopeless. Tenant problems took weeks to fix with both myself and the tenant having to get involved, and the repairs were very expensive. This wasn't helped by a high change over of staff within Sequence. My advice is to avoid this Company, and use one with a Bristol based team....

I am writing this review as a tenant. Allen and Harris are not the worst I have experienced but they are also far from the best. Whilst repair works were completed when requested, they were never to a good standard. I sold my house with Allen and Harris while living overseas and everything went extremely well. Excellent communication throughout and a quick sale of my house. The reason it isn't 5 stars though is the Manager tried to get me to sign up to the 1000 pound buyer incentive scheme without explaining it to me first. I was well aware it was due to be paid on either the property being removed from the market or sold) and if payment was not received within 14 days interest would be ch...

I arranged to view four separate houses on one busy Saturday morning/afternoon. Allen & Harris were made aware of this and the fact that I had booked my viewings in sequence so that I could get to see them all. Firstly, the agent turned up fifteen minutes late which disrupted my tight schedule. Secondly I was greeted by the agent with the words "we do not have the keys for this property, but the current tenants are aware of our appointment and will let us in". After knocking the...

Absolutely terrible, was a tenant and had relationship troubles which meant I could no longer stay there. When I was living there I complained about various items needing to be fixed none of my calls were returned or answered and now it is time to get my deposit back and they are saying I can\'t due to some issues of which hanging pictures. Christine said it was fine and I have a witness but she is now back tracking which is terrible and I would never ever rent of this company again....

My offer was not accepted and I asked to register a note of interest. By this I expected to be contacted and asked to increase my offer if another party came along. I only received a gloating call to say an offer had been accepted. I thought their job was to get the best possible price for a property! VERY POOR....

We submitted a bid for a flat at £38k which was accepted, we went into the branch on the Friday at 16:00 to get the mortgage in place. We were told there was a fee of £399 which would be a lifetime fee, any other properties or re-mortgages in the future and we would not be charged this amount again. No problem, started the mortgage application. On the Tuesday we were told that the flat was on the market at the wrong price and the asset management company was going to make a decision ...

We should have been told at the point of mortgage application in detail that if the deal falls through tomorrow you are liable for β€š£399 for starting the mortgage process.I would have done it myslef, at the point we were told there is a β€š£399 fee for setting up the mortgage which is common as the estate agents can get better deals on occasions. They should not have lied when they knew a higher bid was coming in or had came in after accepting our bid. If they wanted to take the higher bid which i would have no problem with they should not be charging me β€š£399 for doing so.

I have recently been looking for a house to buy in the Bath area. It has been my good fortune not to have had to use estate agents for 25 years and I thought that with the property market in its present stagnant state and the fact I am a cash buyer agents would be biting my hand off to make a sale. Not so Allen and Harris who failed to call me back on enquiries I made about houses seen on Rightmove. When I did eventually view a house through them the agent was half an hour late turning up and I ...

I have had the worst experience unfortunately with Allen & Harris, they were very efficient on the day that I needed to view the flat, however, after that day I was on an extremely tight deadline with a new job starting and Christmas and New Year getting in the way - I had a week from taking the property to when I needed to move in which Allen and Harris were completely aware of. I had to keep phoning them to chase up my references and they never return your call, they also lied and said the...

The agent could have explained the opening hours of their accounts department and told me to have either made a bank transfer earlier on in the week so that they could have checked it was in their account or they could have told me to make a debit card payment - its frustrating because the money was already and I chose that method because I thought it would be easier and they were fully aware that I needed the keys today and that I was travelling 3 hours with a car full of stuff!!!

Having used - and been disppointed with - Allen & Harris when I had rented with their Oxford branch a few years back, I had promised myself never to do business with them again. However, I found a property that was perfect for me being let through them, so I thought Id give them a second chance, Big mistake. Same as the first time round they never answer their phone, dont call back when asked, and dont give any clear information when you are finally able to speak to someone. Made up costs ...

I am trying to buy a house within the next 10 weeks and have requested information on a property advertised by the Bridge of Weir branch of Allen & Harris. I was contacted on Monday only to be told that I could not see the home report prior to viewing the property. I explained my situation (ready to buy, finances organised, ready to move) and asked again if I could see the home report first so as not to waste my time nor the vendors. I was told that the vendor would be contacted regarding th...

After renting a property through yourselves for over 3 1/2 years also being my first rented property. I would say all was fine par when I moved in the place was like a trash site. Nothing was cleaned, replaced or decorated. Then when I decided to leave the property. Never have I seen an unorganised clearly landlord biased service in getting a deposit back (The landlord hasnΒ’Γ’β€šΒ¬Γ’β€žΒ’t made a claim yet or responded but take this as that they do just so we can extend the 10 day legal deposit return period) The 10 days are there to protect the person renting but I see you just loop hole that regardless. I feel totally let down by sequence homes and totally uncared for. Delays caused by the inventory service, multiple delays from yourselves, multiple failed communications with me. I would never use your service or recommend your service to anyone. I have always been the one to phone up and find out the bad news on the mistakes/delay which should of been communicated with me the same day by phone not a few days or Β’Γ’β€šΒ¬Γ‹Ε“a oh sorry I forgotΒ’Γ’β€šΒ¬Γ’β€žΒ’ days later by e-mail. A quote for a sink that has taken well over a week. A net curtain not even included on my inventory then telling me I have to wait to see if it ok that the landlord doesnΒ’Γ’β€šΒ¬Γ’β€žΒ’t want to claim for something they cant legally claim for anyway. I have just moved home, I am stressed in need of the money which is rightfully mine during the most crucially tight part of the year. I sit here nearly a month on with β€š£0 returned. I am not at the point of writing a formal complaint to the property ombudsman, yourselves and considering taking it to Watchdog/CAB. I wonder how many other of your EX tenants are being treated this way.

I found a small flat to rent that they advertised and the day before I was due to take the keys, I was told that I would need a guarantor as my job reference had come back looking dodgy!?! I am a qualified accountant earning over £30K a year and I am starting a new permanent job and it turns out that as I am in a probationary period that they want extra security which I have never heard of. I told them that I am 32 yr old male and there is no one I know what would act as a guarantor. I re...

Have been renting an Allen and Harris property for the last two years. Attempts to contact them to repair faults with the property have met with silence - the broken window handle wasn't too bad, the leaking tap was costly, but probably waiting six months before we could leave the house properly thanks to the door being stuck was probably the worst. Further than that, a simple change in tenancy has cost me just under a thousand pounds because Allen and Harris have failed to provide a signed cont...

Utterly hopeless. Tried to sell my tiny house with them, and they didn't advertise in the local papers, seemed to make no effort anywhere else, and did pretty much nothing for the money. I had 2 viewings in 12 months, I dropped the price twice, and even after that, they couldn't arrange any more viewings! I'd steel clear of this lot, you'll never sell a house with them....

[[EDIT ORIGINAL START]] We attempted to sell our property through Allen & Harris, and soon realised we had made a terrible mistake. They never answered their phones or returned messages (so how would a potential buyer contact them?!), broke promises and outright lied to us (a typical example is that they failed to load the details of our property onto the internet, and then claimed their systems were down - an outright lie as we'd been into the office and seen them working that day). I used this company when moving to Bristol a I quickly needed a property in central Bristol. It cost an absolute fortune, staff were uninterested as soon as we took the property. I've had to ring several times for various reasons and get passed around and left on hold, then I'm told somebody will call me back and they never do. After renting from Allen & Harris once, will never do so again! Consistently incompetent, utterly indifferent to the interests of the tenant, and loads of enormous made-up fees to boot. Too many problems to detail, but included lengthy delays to multiple repairs, failure to notify of major building works, unacceptable delay in return of deposit. The worst experience I\'ve had in 12 years of lettings - and they have a bad reputation with a number of my colleagues as well. ...

Didn't appear to have checked the seller's details (eg the washing machine left behind turned out to be a tumble drier), the solicitor they recommended to their seller was unresponsive and I believe we lost a couple of weeks through failure to respond. Main complaint is that the Wallingford branch seems to be populated by under 18 year old girls with no experience of moving house. The whole experience felt flakey and left us with some unexpected expenses....

I chose Allen and Harris in Clifton village (Bristol) to sell my flat primarily due to their location (at the end of my street). Overall I have been very impressed with their service. The particluars they produced were excellent - I almost didn't recognise the flat the photos looked so good. They were very quick off the mark at getting people into view - within 24 hrs of instructing A&H they had 6 people lined up. This level of interest was maintained at approximately 8 viewings a week until a b...
