Appalling, Disgraceful , Shambolic are the 3 words i think of connected to Square mile. I do not know where to start. Cant possibly list all issues here. A lift broken for 4 months. As the lift was broken for this time and we were on a high floor they told us we could postpone our moving out until the lift was fixed in which they would supposedly urgently arrange.
They then call us the day before saying this was not the case and that we had to move straight away . Only for sympathy for the new tenants who would have been messed around did we have to arrange to move again at the last... (read more)

We've spent last year and a half renting a property in East London which is managed by Square Mile and this has been by far the worst experience in 10 years privately renting in London.
We've had so many issues in our building during last year that some neighbours have decided to start paying 50% less rent.
Moreover, our building has 11 floors and the lift has been broken for the last 3 months. As all of you can imagine, Square Mile doesn't want to be responsible and everyone keeps passing the ball to each other.

I have had a year tenancy in one of their managed properties and have never had a worse experience with any company. There have been so many problems with the property that we ended up writing to the landlord to ask them if they knew.
It turned out they didn't.
When we could get them to do work on the flat (which wasn't often) they hired cowboys to do it and then charged the landlord a fortune.
For the entire tenancy there was a leak in the shower room which ruined the walls, carpet and various other things and only got fixed when the landlord got involved.
We were without hot water on a number of occasions and had to move out for a time while it was fixed. The guy who "fixed" it hardwired the heating to the mains so the emmersion heater was running 24/7 and couldn't be switched off. This resulted in a £1000 electricity bill which we were not expecting.
It got to the point when they wouldn't even talk to me on the phone and I had to go and camp out in their offices.
Total disaster, whatever you do don't sign up with them!

I moved out of the property I rented from Square Mile in Morton Close, Shadwell, just over a year ago. Out of interest I decided to read some reviews of Square Mile a year after my ordeal with them. I am still so angry and upset by the treatment I received by the people that work at both the letting agency and their property management. I still think about this period of my life and how horrendous this company treated me.I can't list all the problems I had over the 15 months I rented through them, but they include:

I wish I had read these reviews before we signed up for our flat with Square Mile Lettings, I know that Estate agents have a poor reputation, but Square Mile takes the cake.
We originally took on a place and had arranged a date to move in, we hadn't heard anything for a week or so, so three days before our agreed moving in date I called to chase up that everything was on track, I was then told by one of the very rude estate agents in the city office that we wouldn't be moving in as our reference checking hadn't been done. If I could have selected zero stars, I would have. The most unprofessional, laxadasical, condescending and unreliable organisation I've ever dealt with.
The problems with the estate agent began from the first viewing of the property we ended up renting. With hindsight, we should've seen the signs and researched them a bit more but never expected it to be this bad. A friend and I moved into a two bedroom flat last year and both agreed that we had never seen this level of poor service from any other estate agent.

Made us pay exceedingly when moving out - plus: small detail, but significant - i had not ended standing order early enough, so one more rental payment went to their account - they charge 25 GBP fees to return this money, which was not due - I am not sure about the legal situation, but this seems absurd to me.
Very confusing and unhelpful - to say the least - in whatever negotiations with the landlord.

Take forever to do anything, won't respond to phone calls and emails and generally very very rude. They asked if we could "wait until Monday" on Saturday morning to report that we had no water and it has taken them 3 months to fix hot water - still not fixed!
Would not consider dealing with this estate agent again and I think the only people who have given good reviews on here must be the company themselves.

This company is by far the most incompetent gathering of people i have ever encountered. The service from this company is beyond Woeful. Some of the highlights of our experience with them include renting our flat from us when we decided to renew to a higher bidder. When we then paid a deposit on another flat on a higher floor with them they took our deposit but then accepted more money from the exiting tenant to remain there. And therefore ended up giving us antother apartment on a lower floor. They are now chasing us for additional money which they did not charge us at our moving in. We paid all agreed costs at moving in but they are now saying due to a mistake of calculation by one of their employees we owe them over

Still trying to get my deposit back after over 2 months, and also an overpayment made! No-one returns my calls, or emails, is never available. They were extremely unprofessional when dealing with them over 2 years ago, and suddenly said we had to move out after a year. Only found out it was because they get their yearly fee from the owner (who is oblivious to what they are up to as he lives overseas).....do not go near them to rent a property as a landlord or tenant.

I have used Square Mile several times to find me a property and I have had no issues from them in regards to property management or getting my deposit refunded. The lettings staff in the docklands office where always friendly and very helpful in getting me the best deal possible. I will recommend these guys to anybody. Thank you guys!

Appalling.
They were not able to hand over the keys until about 7pm on the day our tenancy started, we wanted to begin moving our belongings in at 10am, as was our right but 'people don't usually need the keys till the evening'.
They guaranteed that we could keep a pet in the property (we wanted assurance so we got them to include a clause on the tenancy), almost immediately it emerged that animals were banned from the building. Lost keys, gave wrong information about moving in dates to tenant and myself, witheld deposit for very long time, not refunded my agreement fee as promised, did not refund me on a tenant's deposit who subsequnetly absconded, no response from them and complaints not responded to. If you have the same problem go straight to the ARLA website to complain.

By far the worst lettings company I have ever come across. Phone calls, e-mails and letters are all ignored and if you do manage to get to speak to the correct person they are rude and patronising. It is excuse after excuse for why they cannot return the deposit after nearly 3 months and yet I'm sure it would be the other way round if payment for rent was late. Avoid.

Absolutely disgraceful and judging by the comments of everyone else I'm not surprised at what an awful service I received on my first contact with them. They call themselves a management company they even can't manage to return a phone call. When I finally got through the woman rudely hung up on me. Stay away from this company if you can. Unfortunately I am now tied into a contract but I will never ever use them again. Even the concierge have said they are the worst agents/managers. Imagine that....

Absolutely, by far, the worst experience I have ever had as a tenant. I wanted to be present at the checkout before turning the flat over. Even though Square Mile scheduled the meeting, nobody showed up. I waited over an hour and eventually had to leave my keys with the concierge (who had no affiliation with me or Square Mile) and basically had to abandon the flat when I moved out. Ten days later I received the checkout report, which was legitimate. I then signed and returned all the documentation. Even though there was no discrepancy with the checkout report, it still took 3 months for Square Mile to return the security deposit. Ridiculous! The property management office is impossible to deal with. Having said that, once we complained to upper management they were very apologetic and responded fairly quickly. I sympathize with anyone else in this situation. If you are considering a flat that is let by Square Mile then I would seriously think twice about it.

Brendan Dowson the manager who I spoke to is a star. At the end of the day getting good quality tenants in straight away at the best possible rent is all I ask for and square mile have now delivered for the fourth time in a row - I couldn't ask for more. Thanks.

If I could given them a zero I would. I have been a tenant in a property managed by them, if I did my job as badly as they do theirs then I would have been sacked a long time ago. They are slow, they are not pro-active in communicating with you and I agree they lie about who is in the office when and avoid your calls. In future I will avoid any propery let through them at all costs.

I have to chase almost every month for the rent to be paid to me and they never give a proper explanation why they don't pay on time.Rebecca is very poor at replying to emails and claims to be off sick even when her manager told me she was in the office for 2 days after receiving my request for my money.
They didn't get my property cleaned in between tenants as they are contractually obliged to do.

Had the displeasure of trying to use their lettings service. Agent would not return calls - when I could get him on the phone he was dis-interested in letting the properties I was interested in. Canceled viewings several times without reason and refused to show me a property cause he wanted to be home by 6:30.
If they are this much hassle before they have your money, imagine how bad they are after they get it.

This office "manages" properties for landlords. As a tenant living in a property in Morton Close, Shadwell, "managed" by these people, I would advise both tenants and landlords to steer clear of this company. The property managers are completely incompetent, very difficult to get hold of via phone or email, and simply do not do their job. I was without water in my kitchen for around 6 weeks at one point: the property manager stated it was the landlord's fault for not authorising the work in the kitchen (changing a broken tap!)
At the end of my tenancy they took 3 months to return the deposit, again stating the landlord was withholding the deposit.
Square Mile are THE WORST property company I have ever dealt with. Don't trust anything they say, don't use their services unless you want to spend hours on the phone and writing emails to get the smallest thing done.

I would advise anybody to avoid this letting agent at all costs. They are totally incompetent. Unable to fix any issues with the appartment and incredibly rude to their tenants who they do not seem to view as their customers. They will also attempt to extract extra costs from the tenant at any given opportunity.
