I had a very difficult ex buy-to-rent property to sell which had been refused by other agents. When I contacted Salter Rex, Guy Russell immediately had a solution to the sales problem and put the property on the market using the informal tender system. Following two or three 'open day' viewings, a number of offers were received and one was accepted which was somewhat higher than I was, realistically, expecting. The sale went through very smoothly using a solicitor, experienced with this sort of sale, who had been recommended by Guy. Whilst the sale was proceeding, Guy and Wilson were incredibly helpful in various subsidiary matters not really connected with the sale. The sale completed without any problems and within my timescale which, at one point, I had though to be unattainable. Well done Guy and Wilson and thanks for all your help and professionalism throughout.

I dealt with Salter Rex buying a new property for my mother in Hampstead. From start to finish Graham and Alan were professional, friendly and helpful. Graham was always available to answer any questions and all my queries were dealt with promptly. I never had the feeling that I was bothering them even though I had to arrange numerous appointments at the property before and after exchange. As a first time buyer both Graham and Alan offered lots of (much needed) advice. Salter Rex seem to genuinely care about their clients and are very knowledgable about the local area. I would definately recommend them to anyone thinking of buying, selling or renting a property in Hampstead.

Excellent services, with reliable and consistent infos
provided during negotiations, and timely organization of
details when it came to finalization. When we visited in
February 2012 to rent an apartment for our stay in summer,
we met with quite a few real-estate agents. Salter-Rex was
by far the most professional company among those which we
contacted. Having visited other universities in Paris,
Rome, and elsewhere, I can say that the dealings with

Like insurance companies, you only get to know how good an estate agent is until something doesn't go to plan. I've just been through a tricky sale process and both Guy and Wilson worked tirelessly to get the deal pushed through. I was always able to contact one of them, and they never failed to return a call quickly if they happened to be out of the office at the time. I was buying a property at the same time and they dealt honestly and impeccably with the vendor & their solicitors as well as my buyer and his, which likely kept me from losing my purchase. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I was impressed at our first meeting with Wilson. He appeared to know the market and gave good sensible advice. After appointing Salter Rex I was impressed by their efficiency and the quality of the particulars. Wilson gave me regular updates and was impressively pro-active in pushing the transaction to a successful sale. 10/10.

I used these agents because there are two agents serving my small community and the others were unspeakable. They have also been in business for a very long time, though God knows how. My flat was packed full of furniture and ornaments, so I said to them that I realised I would have to clear a lot of things out to make the place look bigger. They said no, the place would sell on its charm. I said I was surprised to hear this, as all the property articles I had read and TV shows I had seen said that presenting an open space was very important. Guy and Wilson both went above and beyond in assisting buying a property that they were selling on behalf of Camden Council. The seller was generally unavailable, missed agreed deadlines, and very unhelpful. These guys did a fantastic job of doing what they could to progress matters, and were of more use to me asthe buyer than my own solicitor.
This included being available to access the property out of hours and making a number of arrangements at very short notice.
Easily the best seling agents I have ever encountered.

Just went through a long and quite complicated sale at Salter Rex (through no fault of theirs). Wilson was fantastic throughout the whole process! In my experience most estate agents are pushy, salesy, distrustful and just not very nice to be around but the opposite was true here. I really found Wilson to be such a consistent, trustworthy, genuinely helpful person - and nice. As a first time buyer he really guided us through all the loops and kept us at ease. When everything just seemed to be a loose end and we needed to get the process moving Wilson was always the one to do it. I cannot recommend him highly enough! For sure when we are selling or buying in the future I'm going to call him.
*I would carefully read the rest of he reviews here as well because the poor ones seem to be for management not sales.

Totally trustworty, intellegent, long suffering, imaginative, practical people. The sale became difficult unexpectedly, but these agnts kept going with patience and really earned thier commission. I have had bad experiences with estate agents in the past, not least because the whole experience can be fraught with human problems and emotions. Its a meeting between people through property where the individuals concerned have often very different requirements and understanding. It cannot be seen as simple business, it is a time of transition and deep importence for whole familes. Only agents who place this at the core of their practise can truely deliver good agency, and Alan and Graham, and indeed colleagues in the kentish Town office did that for me. Thank you. Big gold star.

We're first time buyers who recently bought a property with Salter Rex. We were fairly new to the process and so didn't know the whole buying process intricacies. We couldn't recommend highly enough - Guy was so helpful from our initial offer through to discussions with the seller, advice and even chasing up our v slow mortgage provider. If we ever came to buy or sell again, i wouldn't hesitate to use Salter Rex.
We move in to our new house next Friday and literally couldn't have done it without Guy's help. I can only think that the negative comments here must be about the property management part of the business - you won't find a better informed, more helpful team than the guys in the Kentish Town branch.

After sending me numerous service charge bills all varying in amounts i am now taking them to LVT. They are very unprofessional and never return emails or phone calls. They have sent me a service charge bill for the whole building not just my flat and wont amend it - but instead add more things such as electricity for the hall at £100 - which my tenants actually pay for on there meter. Many more inaccuraties but do NOT USE..... they are still trying to charge me for work NOT done in 2011

This company are terrible and I mean TERRIBLE! They manage our building and are awful on every level! Rude, unprofessional and impossible to deal with- that's if they actually reply to any of your messages or emails in the first place. Avoid them like the plague.

Salter Rex were brilliant in helping us secure the property we wanted to buy. They constanly updated us, kept us in the loop and were very quick in dealing with any issues the arrose. they also helped us negotiate a decent price unlike the other estate agents in the area who seemed to want more commision out of it, not salter rex though, they did it for us not for themselves. I will refer anyone i know here and can honestly say i have never been happier with a service received. 10/10 for everything, Many thanks to all who work there.

I am very pleased with Salter Rex, especially Wilson and Guy with whom i have mainly dealt with, they have provided a good service, being honest at all times, always keeping me updated on certain processes and giving me honest and transparent feedback on viewings.
They also recommended a solicitor, who i have found to be very efficiant.
I would thouroughly reccomend them to anybody looking to sell their home.

I recently bought a flat through Salter Rex, and have to say that Guy and Wilson on the sales team were fantastic - helpful, professional and really helped keep the purchase on track. I honestly couldn't recommend them any more.
It seems that many of the really negative reviews here relate to the property management side of things - I don't have any experience of that side of the things but can definately recommend the sales side - great job!

Salter Rex are our management company for a small block of 3 flats in a converted house. I would never advise anyone to use this company to manage a property. They have overcharged us for renovations (16k for painting part of the outside of a small house and minor repairs), which was also substandard and they ignored complaints regarding the work. I would recommend people get their own quotes rather than rely on Salter Rex, we were astonished at the prices of the three companies they approached and were then left in no option but to accept their choice. They also send threatening letters from debt collectors without a final demand. We have also found them to be rude and unhelpful, account demands to be miscalculated in the past and payments have gone missing.

I find it bizarre that the reviews on here about SR are either 5 stars or 1 star - with hardly anything in between. Any chance that Rex could be writing reviews and misleading customers?
Salter Rex are generally rude, evasive, increase charges without any notice and miscalculate invoices and service fees.
As for "managing" properties - well, 'management' is clearly something they are not used to.
I would strongly urge ANYONE considering purchasing a leasehold property managed by them to look elsewhere. It simply is not worth the hassle.
Try this: An increase from £402 of quarterly charges to almost £780 a quarter - with no notice!

Salter Rex Kentish Town are 5 stars all the way! We have bought and sold a number of properties in a number of countries and Wilson and Guy in the Kentish Town Office were the best team we've worked. Not only were they incredibly professional, but they went out of their way to help us during what was a extraordinarily difficult and protracted process. They went above and beyond what you normally experience with estate agents and worked tirelessly to help us secure the purchase. I will definitely use them again either to buy or sell and am happy to be contacted if anyone requires any further information or feedback.

I came on here to warn others about how infuriatingly useless Salter Rex are, but looking at all the comments posted already, I see there are others that feel the same. Similar complaints: never answer phone calls or emails; rude or arrogant behaviour; most annoying of all, bill that are miscalculated and over-charged - generally threatening last demands when they never sent a first.
I will be encouraging the other leaseholder in my building into a Right to Manage because of our experience with them.

They are absolutely terrible. I wouldnt work with them ever again. More than one person in the apartment building is dissatisfied with their service.
If you are thinking of hiring them to manage your property please choose some other agent.

I have never known an agency to work so hard to achieve a favourable outcome.
Wilson, Guy and the team remained positive, patient and pro-active during a very difficult and protracted negotiation.
I don't hesitate in offering my recommendation to all prospective clients, as I have dealt with many agents buying and selling real estate, and Salter Rex (Kentish Town) are the best agents I have dealt with.Was this review helpful? Yes

The sale of my house took a long time and there were problems with broken chains etc., throughought all this the wonderful team at Kentish Town helped and guided me to completion. They were helpful, courteous and totally proffesional and put my buyers agents to shame. I would hightly recommend them.

Unfortunately, Salter Rex is the managing agent for the freeholder at my leasehold flat. They are utterly useless and I will never buy a flat again where they are involved. Problems with the common use areas go unremedied for well over a year. The latest unresolved issue being the door entry system that has not been working for for a year or so. When I complained and asked for the freeholders details, they provided me with the name of a company that no longer exists and said that as that name is what they had been given, "it must be correct". It's useless arguing with people so stupid but that's what I have to do on a regular basis.

Not surprised by the poor comments and poor ratings. I was wrongly advised and had I followed the advice would be placed in prosecutorial risk. Luckily I detected the total un-professionalism and nipped it in the bud.
Also, had extreme difficulty reaching appointed agents. Communications are not good and quiet frankly arrogant - when you do eventually get through the appointed manager is not fully comprehensive with his responsibilities.
Several times I was told either by the managing agent or the secretary that they were too busy to talk. They behave as if they own your property and you are their servants when in reality either you or your tenants are paying them the fees.
Keep well away unless you want, and in some cases very steep, problems to develop.

I've only just seen this review page even though I bought a property through Salter Rex two years ago.
I didn't put up a review then but given all the negative reviews here, I figured that I might as well present another experience.
I bought a small property in Hampstead. The deal took a lot longer than it should have done because of difficulties with my purchasers in the chain. despite that, Salter Rex were patient and helpful eventually we got the deal thorough.

I have recently dealt with the Kentish Town branch of Salter Rex in selling a family property. Their professionalism and honest approach was very refreshing. I would have no hesitation in using them again and would highly recommend their services.

They said, no, this place will sell on its charm. I was dubious but was glad to hear it, as I would not have to spend money on moving and storage, so believed them. In three months I got only one offer, from people who would not offer the minimum I wanted.
I then changed agents and went with two companies. Both of the valuers said exactly the same thing: You have got to move most of this stuff out or you will never sell the flat. I said that the previous agents had not told me this. Both valuers then looked at me in surprise and said, Then they must have been idiots. Since not only had they not suggested this but had actually turned me down when I suggested this, I take it the two new agents would have considered the men at Salter Rex to be less than idiots.
They also told me firmly that I would not get an offer above the stamp-duty threshold, which was £25,000 below my asking price, that nobody would pay it. One of the other agents found me a buyer who offered me £15,000 more. I realised afterwards that Salter Rex's advice made no sense because obviously properties rise above one stamp-duty threshold and then another as the prices increase. They don't sit below a certain threshold forever.
One of them advised me to be "realistic" when looking for a flat to buy. He said that nobody ever gets exactly what they want. I said that every flat I had ever bought was exactly what I wanted at the time and did not see why I should now settle for less when I had more money to spend than ever before. He said I had been very lucky and was not being realistic. I have now bought a property which is exactly what I want, and it was a very hard choice between that and another one, equally beautiful. In my experience, people who do not get what they want do not know what they want and/or do not try very hard. The latter was certainly the impression given by these agents.
