Strongly encourage all potential tenants to avoid Lauristons.

I joined into a flat share, paid my fees etc to be put on the lease. Signed all the documents and sent them back, even sent an email asking if everything was in line and was told it is. A couple of months later we were told that the landlord was selling the house. The property was subsequently sold (through Lauristons) and we were told we had a month to move out.

There was a break clause in the lease but it was not employable for several months. When we brought attention to this because we needed more time to find a new place instead of implicating the sale of the house Lauristons conveniently informed us that the landlord never signed the lease and therefore they were being generous giving us a month (2 weeks at this point). This was a blatant conflict of interest as they would collect commissions from the sale but had to have us out to complete it yet they were meant to be the 3rd party managing our tenancy for the landlord/seller.

At the very least they took my money to put me on the lease and never did so, meaning I was living in a house for months at risk with void insurance etc. Or, they deleted/binned the version with the Landlords signature to force us out and complete the sale. Either way we had to spend hundreds of pounds on temporary accommodation and storage for bulk belongings.

I made several attempts to get them to return the fees I paid to move in but was constantly forwarded to different people in different locations and never had calls or emails returned. At one point I was told that the only person who was capable of helping me had been in a car accident and I wouldn't be able to reach him for at least a month. I feel sorry for the guy if that was actually the case but after everything else I don't feel I am out of line to be suspicious ...
This person would not use Lauristons again.

Lauriston's came to us with a beautiful flat, for which we put down a £500 holding deposit. 4 days before the moving in date, they came to us saying that the landlord had decided not to put the property up for rent. They showed us a substandard, too-expensive place as an alternative, which we opted not to take. They didn't offer us our holding fee back. We had to ask THEM for it back, which they've promised repeatedly and still haven't done. After US contacting THEM yet again, they have said they'll give it to us back minus reference fees. We've told them that isn't on, and so it goes on... Do not entrust these jokers with your money.
This person would not use Lauristons again.

The staff I corresponded with at Lauristons are best described as venal, inconsistent, arrogant and incompentent.

Throughout my whole ordeal, promises were repeatedly broken. I secured a property to Let and after placing a deposit was given a 'verbal confirmation' by the landlord, via Lauristons, that it was fully secured. However, the follow-up documents never arrived despite what had been promised. Several calls later, I was told that the landlord was now 'number crunching' to see if the deal was feasible. This is despite the fact that we agreed upon a higher price to what was initially advertised.

Following their form, Lauristons did not keep me up to date with these developments. After further calls I was finally told that the landlord wished to retain his current tenants. This was despite the prior agreement and that the Agents at Lauristons advised me to return to Manchester - where I currently reside - as there was no need to remain in London.

Thus I am now faced in the position of having to pay for another train ticket to London in order to secure a property to rent.

Avoid at all costs.
This person would not use Lauristons again.

Horrible, disgusting - if this was a real business you would run a mile.

Endless promises that the work we had asked to be done to our property "was being taken care of and the landlord agrees to everything" £2,500 + later and only a portion of what we asked was done (and to a very poor standard) Lauristons do not wish to help stating now that they "do not manage the property" and "have no legal implication to approach the landlord"....what about all the emails and promises from their "honest" estate agent, who had my "best interests at heart" (all documented in emails if anyone cares!)

Said estate agent left the company before completion and I am now in the hands of an even worse agent. Truly terrifying that in 2011 people can get away with this.

Inventory - paid for, but not completed, and three months later still haven't heard from Lauristons...

As for the landlord... well that's another posting in itself. Crazy times.
This person would not use Lauristons again.

I always thought Estate Agents were cunning, sly and manipulative. However, when my girlfriend and I were looking for a place to rent in Balham, there was one estate agent that stood out from the rest. The staff and in particular a gentleman by the name of Mark Shodipo was extremely helpful. He didn't try to push us to view any properties that didn't suit our requirements. Updated us on new properties and if I was unavailable he would contact my partner Emma. It only took Lauristons under a week to help us find a perfect property. We now live in a stunning apartment and will be looking to stay for 2 years all because of the attention to detail that was given to us. I would 100% recommend this Estate Agents. Thank you so much Lauristons.
This person would use Lauristons again.

We paid deposit and rent in full, they failed to deliver the property on time twice, which caused us to be homeless for a while. Then when we claimed our money back within the 14 days deposit period, they refused to pay. during the court, Lauristons denied any connection with the west kensington branch, and still they hold my money, case continue.
This person would not use Lauristons again.

I'm using this forum to warn other prospective tenants against Lauristons. Basically, we put down the bond and fees, no small amount, while they 'credit checked' us. They stretched out the process over several weeks, then they told us rather unconvincingly that the landlord had gone behind their backs and gotten a higher offer. More like they were holding us and our money up, while getting a higher offer. We then had to rush to find another property as our lease was up at our previous place. The property is now on their website as let by them! Very dishonest. Heard through a colleague that they had the same issues with this agent. Unacceptable.
This person would not use Lauristons again.
