We have rented from Martin and Co for over two years now, they have a very lazy approach to repairs and maintenance, recently they have increased our rent, when I spoke to Paul about the lack of maintenance on the property, broken kitchen units, mould growing in the windows, no doors, no fire alarms and broken white goods. He told me that rent increases had nothing to do with maintenance, that they were two separate issues. He has not addressed the maintenance issue, we still have no inside doors, which is worrying in the event of a fire breaking out, my partner has fitted all the fire alarms in the house because when we moved in they were all broken. Paul seems only to be bothered about money, as long as he gets his extra percentage on the rent and his renewal fees and administration fees he seems quite happy, while in the mean time the house is not being maintained properly. I think because the housing market is in the state it is in, estate agents can get away with behaving like this, we like the house and cannot really afford the huge fees and upheaval of moving, housing is in such a state that it is hard to find a new place. It's just such a terrible shame that businesses or people like Paul choose to be so uncaring and off hand with customers, is it such a huge deal to arrange for a house to meet fire regulations? Is it so very hard to reply politely to an email? I think there was a time when people really took pride in making their customers feel valued and happy now, certainly with a company like Martin & Co, it seems that it's all about taking the money and running. They are clearly cashing in on the housing crisis and putting people like myself and my partner who cannot really afford to move, into a position where we are left no choice but to stay in over priced properties with unacceptable living standards.
