I would not use the agent again

The staff at Countrywide residential lettings in Preston are possibly the most incompetent people I've ever met.

We've rented with them for two and a half years and have had no end of problems. Every time something needed fixing it took us at least 4 phone calls of constantly chasing them up to get anything done. They never call back when they are supposed to, and every time I ever spoke to a member of them team I had to re-tell them the problem again because it was as though the issue had never been logged in the first place. I'm moving out in the next month and am worried they'll do everything they can do to not return our deposits. If anyone has any advice on how to deal with them on this please let me know. I cannot stress enough NEVER rent with Countrywide!

    Countrywide have managed the property im letting for 18 months. Its been a nightmare. They never return your calls, never reply to your letters & never sort out any maintentance requests. I've had my most effective form of heat disconnected for 4 weeks & they still dont get it repaired. They have the nerve to send me a letter telling me winter is approaching & its my responsibity to keep the flat warm to prevent frost damage.Bring on the hypothermia .They are totally incompetent.

    Windsor must top the list as being the worst. We should name and shame as these people will go onto other places.

    My advice would be to get the landlord to put into writing his instruction for CRL to return your deposit (email is acceptable and asked to be copied in). Once CRL have that they are legally obligued to return you deposit (as set out by the Landlord) as promptly as their internal processes will allow. Further advice would be to keep your landlord happy and give him/her no reason to hold the process up. The landlord must authorise repayment or give you valid reason as to why he/she won't. If he/she does not they are simply breaking the law.
