As an ex-office owner in England. Have to say the personal service to customers is very good generally. However I would never recommend anyone buy a franchise as they just take your money and do little in return. Ask RE/MAX head office how many franchises have opened and closed in the last 5 years.

I sold a property through remax they were so bad i could hardly beleive it. Asked for schedules and business cards to give out as people arriving at door to buy didn't receive any took weeks to put through clients as they keep telling people with mortgage decisions in principal that they themselves will get them a better mortgage so drags on to find customer after another 4 weeks doesn't get it again. They put you out your house during viewing, Communication very poor, make up so much lies its actually unbelievable. Use a good solicitor will save you time and money in the long run.

Very strange, the guys I dealt with were great and went way beyond anyone else I have ever dealt with. AND they open at the weekend AND I could call them in the evening. Just try and call your solicitor after 5pm or at the weekend OR at lunch time for that matter.
I checked with the guys I know and all have been trained and passed an exam to be an Estate Agent. I called two solicitors firms and was told that they have people who have been doing the job for ages and know all they need to know!
I have been buying and selling homes for years and now always use Remax if I can. These guys have put nearly 10k in to it and so at least they try and sell homes and not just wait for a buyer like every up themselves solicitor I have had the misfortune to come up against.
You want moans about solicitors firms in Scotland? Give me a call. Just try and sue a solicitor. Its disgusting. Remax have never let me down.

Dishonest, conmen. Inverness office make up lies as they go along. The refused to look at an offer for £8000 more because they were arranging the mortgage for a bidder offering less. Unfortunately, I did not find this out until sale concluded.

Unbelievable, simply type 'remax conman leith' into google and you see what I mean. Abusive threatening comes after unbelievable...

What, exactly, does this mean?
"Abusive threatening comes after unbelievable..."
Wot?

Anyone connected to the property market in Edinburgh knows who 'not happy' is, also goes by the name of 'unhappy chappy'. A seriously sad man, with far too much time on his idle hands. People like this serial complainer completely ruin sites like this, making a mockery of decent people who take the time to post accurate, honest reviews. Ignore him.

The most professional estate agents i've ever come across. They really cared about what i wanted and went that extra mile to deliver. Truly a breath of fresh air.

I think the guys at RE/MAX do a brilliant job. The agents I dealt with were registered with the NAEA and also with the ombudsmen scheme.
I was surprised to see some bad reviews and I am a bit suspicious as to their origin, are they other agents perhaps. They are part of the biggest selling estate agency network in the world so that told me something they know how to sell houses.
I was treated with respect and always kept informed. But I suppose it is like anything in life you can always come across someone who does not give great service whether they are with RE/MAX or any other company, but at least these guys have the guts to work for themselves and invest their own money in selling my home.
The team i dealt with in Port Talbot were amazing, friendly and they were always glad to see me. And these guys work with a local charity giving over some of their commissions to help the less fortunate.
I don't normally feel inclined to write a review but I felt it necessary to balance out the negative ones I saw. Since I have been a client with the Remax office in Port Talbot I feel almost like one of their Friends and I like to stick up for my firends.

Dreadful. American firm and they even have a bad reputation in the US as well.
Most of the stuff on their website does not exist, staff don't know what they are talking about. Asked if I could register with them as a buyer and they seemed amazed at the suggestion and said they 'didn't work like that'.
Eventually managed to get them to take my details and they said they would ring me back when something became available. That was the last I heard till 6 months later when I got a phone call and an email asking if I wanted to go to a seminar to train to be an estate agent!

I must be missing something somewhere. If a firm is as dreadful as you say how on earth have they grown to having more than 7000 offices worldwide. Obviously there must be a hell of a lot of satisfied sellers and buyers out there.

And the evidence for "bad reputation in the US" is what, exactly?

The service I recieved whilst using Remax was disgusting, they are the biggest bunch of conmen about. Even other local estate agents are unhappy at how they are portraying their profession in this area!
The estate agents have no formal training and most at one branch (Neath) have come straight from selling baguettes!!!

Anyone thinking of buying/selling with the estate agent REMAX, I would have to warn them to seriously think twice!
They are amatures who are out to make a quick buck and will mislead (polite word for lie!) to make themselves money as they are self-employed. They are not registered with the estate agent council so there is no backup if things do go wrong.
From my own personal experience, I was blantantly lied to from the beginning and when it came to renegotiating figures once the surveyors report came through, the estate agent would not pass on my new offer to the seller.
Commented by neebs707 on the 19th May 2008
You are well wide of the mark. If they are that bad how do they have a huge market share in the UK and where I live in Scotland they sell 75% of the property!
Commented by Nicki on the 30th October 2008
Remax are incompetent, rude, aggressive bullies. They are pressurising clients into signing contracts and paying deposits. I would very strongly recommend avoiding Remax at all costs.
Commented by gazza on the 9th November 2008
I had superb service by Remax both for selling my old property and purchasing my new one. I suspect some of these bad reviews are by other estate agencies who don't work as hard!
Commented by agent orange on the 18th March 2009
People, people, people..... There are over 7000 RE/MAX offices worldwide in over 65 countries.
There's well over 100 in the UK, I think.
Just pointing the finger at 'RE/MAX' generally doesn't carry any weight, since the whole worldwide or countrywide organisation isn't at fault.
As I said earlier, if someone said they got bad service in a 'Comet' or 'Curry' or 'Woolworths', your first reaction would be 'WHICH one?' - wouldn't it?

The very fact you call the company REMAX does lead to me to doubt the truth of this review. Anyone who has used any branch of RE/MAX (or anyone with a bit of general knowledge) will know that each office is an independent business, all run by different people - so how can you make sweeping statements about 'remax'? If you are going to write a review, please at least be accurate, and do not falsely accuse other offices after your supposed dealings with one - there are 7000 offices, so just a touch unrealistic to judge them all the same. And yes, I am involved with a RE/MAX office, and proud to be so. We bend over backwards to help our clients, and are constantly up against generalised claims about 'remax' - very annoying!!!
Commented by query on the 18th March 2009
Merely commenting on 'RE/MAX' tells us nothing, as they have many offices throughout the UK. It's like reviewing 'McDonalds' or 'KFC' here, without telling us WHICH McDonalds or KFC you were in.
I notice the subtitle to the thread states a couple of towns, but perhaps it's an issue to be raised with the webmasters here, that anyone reviewing an agent within an affinity group or network should specify a geographic location for who they dealt with.

"Asked for schedules and business cards to give out as people arriving at door"
All you needed to door was point the people at the sale board, with your agent's and office's details, and ask them to contact the office. Then, if the office were doing their job, they would have got the name, telephone no etc of the buyer prospect (enabling follow-up with that prospect), rather than you handing out a schedule with no idea who it went to.
"They put you out your house during viewing,"
Quite right too. That's definitely the way to go. Nothing wrong with it. Viewers will feel self-conscious if you, the owner, are around. They'll be more honest with an agent about what they like and don't like.
