We have been looking for a flat to rent in north London. All the time Foxtons kept suggesting properties that were outside of our stated budget. I went to see one of their flats in Camden Town - it was a mess. They can only think about their commission and frankly it is a waste of time even speaking to them. Avoid.

You cant trust a word these people say. They are aggressive to the point of offence - pure parasites. I wish eBay would allow people to buy and sell houses directly to cut these scum out. Why should i pay for their plasma screen tvs and silly little cars?

Dealing with Foxtons - particularly one strident lady at its Shoreditch office - was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was shouted at, bullied, conned, and lied to. NEVER AGAIN. As for my rating, it should be MUCH lower than terrible. Foxton's should be rated ILLEGAL and IMMORAL.

An old boyfriend of mine rented a flat under a company tenancy. Leaks in every room, after under a year he walked out - leaving rent unpaid because they'd never fulfilled their obligations to him as a tenant. More people should do this - just communicate your complaints in writing (pref email and ask for "read receipt" so you have evidence), take photos, get the neighbors around so you have evidence. Preferably, just never use them - too much negative publicity so you should know better!

We had arranged with Joshua Benjamin (tel 07875801230, 02071337765) from their Canary Wharf office to view some properties on a Sunday morning. He calls early that morning to tell us that he has to cancel all appointments for "personal reasons". We reschedule for Tuesday evening. He calls again on Monday morning to confirm. On Tuesday evening when we arrived, he told us that we had left him a voice message saying that we want to cancel the viewings, and therefore he is unavailable!!!!
AVOID these sleazy characters at all costs! Not to mention that in early telephone conversations we had with him he was trying to get out as much personal information as he could. The most unpleasant character you could ever come across!!!

They have been managing my property and charging me crazy prices for getting small repairs done. Since September 2007, I have paid £750 in boiler works, £400 to change a tap, £150 to change a gas cartridge!
They don't reply phone calls and they charge 17% of my rent. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

I used Foxtons to let my property in Notting Hill, and although they managed to secure a tenant, I found their attitude, fee scale and general service level to be rubbish!!
I remember speaking to my 'lettings agent' - some blonde bimbo, who didnt know how to operate a calculator (!) - and furiously telling her that it was criminal that Foxtons wanted to charge me £300 to draft a simple tenancy agreement - and another £300 to the tenant!!!
I told her I had an approved ARLA tenancy agreement on my laptop, which would take literally 10 minutes to fill out the relevant boxes - so how the hell do they charge £600 for it?!?!!??! She looked like a dumb animal, not knowing how to respond, so just agreed to waive the fee!!! - scandalous!!
DONT LET THEM TRY AND CON YOU - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
The government regulated the financial services industry in the 1980's and mortgages in 2004. Its well overdue to bring the same level of monitoring for all Estate and Lettings Agents.
Be vigilant.

I saw a house with another agent and then with Foxtons by accident, Foxtons were uninterested and claimed the rent was £200 more expensive per month than previously quoted with the other agent.
Steer well clear of these people. On another occasion I attempted to view a flat, only to be told 30minutes after we arranged to see it that they didn't have the keys. No word of apology - nothing.

After sale fell through with previous agent who then seemed to loose interest in selling my flat, Foxtons came in and sold it in under 10 days for 10 grand more.
They were expensive, but since they got me more money I came out on top.
