This estate agent has obsessively tried to gain my custom from another estate agent without any approach from myself. Frequent mailings and business cards through my door have been a constant throughout my efforts to sell my house. At no point did i seek help from this agent and indeed told one of their salesman point blank at my front door that i had no interest in discussing the sale of my property with his agency - undeterred the mailings have continued. Comically he didn't even identify the correct agent that I was selling my property through despite being stood by the For Sale sign. Having agreed the sale of my home before christmas, i am still lucky enough to receive this week more mailings from this agency. Unsolicited harrassment.

Can't believe these people are still in a job.
    1. We are told that they can get a good price for the property and will have it sold in 12 weeks. Well 18 months later they have taken the property off the market because we refused to lose money on the property. Fox and sons wanted to sell the property for just under £30,000 less than what they told us they would get to start with.
    2. Trying to get an appointment with their mortgage adviser was great to start off with (we could get a mortgage in excess of £200,000). Then when we wanted another appointment to renew the agreement, after was... (read more)

I tried to buy a property advertised with Fox and Sons in 2010. They tried to dissuade me stating that another buyer was already in place -i.e one of their preferred buyers, despite the house only being advertised that day.

I submitted a higher than asking offer (£200k) and my offer was accepted in writing by the vendor.

Fox and Sons then put a lot of pressure on me to use their in - house mortgage adviser and they were very unhappy when i confirmed that i had my own mortgage in place already (thus depriving them of an easy commission).

In fact they tried to scupper my offer by... (read more)

Unfortunately they conform to the stereotypical estate agent as being untrustworthy and will say anything to get a sale. I offered the full asking price for a flat which the agent previously said hadn't received much interest. Suddenly someone else also apparently offers the full asking price, but the agent said if I arranged my mortgage through Fox & Sons' financial consultant they would recommend my offer over the other person's. When I asked why, they said it was because they were able to process mortgage applications more quickly and as the seller was after a quick sale this would be... (read more)

After many years being a tenant and a glowing reference I had a telephone call from the agent to say they had lost my paperwork for my move and could I come in to sign new ones. I explained i would not sign anything until I can look over it and read carefully with my family. As in the past they took some of my deposit for no reason and had to fight to get it back, which in the end we did. After the phone call they thought they had put the phone down and of course they had not and continued to talk about me in a very unprofessional way using fowl language that I was inconveniencing them, when they lost their work!! Unbelievable. I will be following this up with the area manager as I am shocked by their unprofessional behaviour. Sadly will never recommend to anyone.

I viewed several properties with Fox & Sons, and I found the team very helpful, local knowledge was excellent and very flexible they also showed me round all the properties I wanted to look at without the vendor being in which I found made the process much better for me being able to take my time and say what I think. I also saw there mortgage advisor Jack who was very helpful and actually helped me find a property from another agent in the end and help me negotiate a good price as he used his knowledge to help me.

I wish I had found this website before I chose Fox and Sons! Their customer service has been awful, they never return our calls, the guy in charge of our case left to join another branch and never told us (we found out when I tried to contact him on a Monday morning, I had only spoken to him on the previous Thursday and he never mentioned it). Our case was then left with the branch manager who is nothing short of useless. Only on one occasion has he returned a call to me. Once I called 3 times in a day and no reply, just the dizzy receptionist who "promised" she would call back and never did. Eventually it took my boyfriend phoning them instead to get a call back, I felt like we had been thrown back to the 1950's, they bother to respond when the man calls! I am writing this after calling today 2 hours ago, and still having no call back... It makes me physically sick that they are going to earn any money out of me.

Sale has still not gone through even after 6 months even though I was told it would take 28 days. The staff at Eastbourne also informed me that I would be buying into share of the freehold. They went back on their word and the staff are denying all knowledge even though they also informed my solicitor and mortgage advisor that there would be share of freehold - they went back on their word, got caught out. They are extremely unprofessional. Do not use this agent - stay away from Sequence. I am now starting legal proceedings.

I could not recommend Fox & Sons on the basis of my experience last year. I used them but I never really felt comfortable at any time. In fact I often felt really uneasy, and with hindsight I wish I had gone elsewhere. Since my experience, numerous local people who have sold or bought houses in Lewes all unhesitatingly recommended the more traditional firm opposite the law courts as decent and effective, with no hidden charges, and only charging one per cent, plus no high-pressure persuasion, and no creepy feeling of being manipulated. They told me that with the traditional firm, they didn't feel like a unit on a conveyor belt or part of some creepy deal to pressure buyers into mortgage deals. With Fox's I constantly had a nasty feeling they were going to spring hidden charges on me if I gave them half a chance. I cannot back any of this up with anything concrete. But when I let someone try to sell my property, I want to feel I can trust them 100% to work in my interest, and not theirs. I didn't have that feeling.

Fox and Sons are a useless bunch. I want to buy a property and I specify a time on three days and they can't make any of them. I'm phoning on a Tuesday and I can't see the house until the following Monday! I'm glad I'm not trying to sell my house with them. Other agents in Tiverton are very good. This lot are really bad according to other people who have used them too. My advice is steer well clear, there are plenty of others.

I had a really good experience from them. I was anxious at the start as they seemed almost too keen to capture my custom, but they did well: - efficient and speedy in response, effective, friendly and attentive, and happy to consult. I was selling while overseas and in a very different timezone, but they accommodated to my needs and all but some essential correspondence was by email. I hope that others have equal service in the future. From my own, I would certainly recommend them.

We have had a very bad experience with Fox and Sons we were told we had to see their mortgage advisor as we would need to prove our situation and any offers couldn't be taken seriously until then, we had a few viewings right at the beginning then none for ages months! We had to keep phoning them for updates on the little viewings we did have as they didn't call us, we were interested in a house to buy and we asked them to keep us informed of progress we phoned up one day to find it had sold, we were not informed. We have heard so many bad reports of a lack of service, we were tied in with them as we opted for the free HIP if we used their solicitors, After such poor service we have since withdrawn from them and had to pay them

We have been on the market with Fox & Sons Haywards Heath for nealry 2 months and have had a very low number of viewings, despite having an 'open day' which was the feature that attracted us to Fox & Sons in the first place.

We have found it difficult to talk to the person that you want to talk to as they are always 'on the other line' or 'just popped out out'. And the times we did request a callback we had to chase at least twice to actually receive one!

We will soon be changing agents and would agree with the reviews of the Haywards Heath branch in particular who seem to have no understanding of customer service at all!

We have tried to buy a property through Fox & Sons, but we were basically blackmailed to attend a mortgage appointment otherwise our offer would not be put forward to the vendors in a favourable light. Even though we have our finances in place, they would not accept this and very sarcastically told us our offer had been declined and that the vendor had taken into consideration the fact we had cancelled the mortgage appointment. This is unbelievable. We are still trying to negotiate an offer and according to our solicitors, our estate agents and our mortgage broker, is not the way to be doing things. Foxes & Sons need to pull their socks up. Do not deal with them if you have any sense, especially the Haywards Heath branch, who are rude and totally useless.

In my experience Fox and Sons have no concept of the tenant's point of view. Unhelpful, unresponsive staff - including the manager. Absolutely no ethics whatsoever. No courtesy. Virtually no service/customer care. Employees seem to be overworked, understaffed and undertrained, doing less than the bare minimum. In comparison with other letting agents I have dealt with in the past - some of which were pretty terrible - Fox and Sons are by far the worst.

Please dont use Foxes and Sons. Like other sellers I was promised lots of viweings and the property would be sold very quickly. Their customer service is non exisent , they don't return calls, no feedback, don't even believe the two viewings were guinuene. I went above branch level to the area manager who promised to sort things out. I have since had a very rude and abrupt phone call from the branch, if this was how I dealt with customers in my job I would be sacked. Please everone be aware and do not use them they promise the world and the give you a giant smack in the mouth, they are praying on vunerable people and don't care we have contacted watchdog. I suggest you do the same.

My dealings with Fareham branch and their staff can only be described as the worst service I have ever encountered. Rude, ignorant, unhelpful people I have ever had the misfortune to come into contact with. Lure you in, promises promises, as soon as the've got you the problems begin!!!! No curtesy calls, no feed back calls, to be honest no nothing!!!! They only advertise properties that they have sold!!! Explain that one, is one going to look for a property thats already been sold!!! I could go on for ever. Make sure you do your research before giving them a call, better still don't bother picking up the phone to call them.

Just one more thought, on my way to work I noticed two properties for sale with Fox and Sons 6 weeks later they were up for sale with another estate agent. I rest my case.

We attempted to sell our house through F&S Haywards Heath. Our experience amounts to a catalogue of questionable sales tactics and poor customer service.

Their best salesman appeared only to have been required to get our business. He did that with style; when we signed and he left our house the spell broke and we wondered what on earth we'd let ourselves in for. We never saw him again. We realised within a week that we were significantly over valued and that they'd used the high valuation as a sales tool to secure, not only our business, but a fixed fee commission that looked great for us if we sold high, but when reality kicked in it was only ever going to work in their favour.

We signed up for their HIP pack. Free if we sold and nearly twice the market price if we ended the contract without selling. How many people go on the market expecting not to sell? Seemed like a great deal at the time.

There was huge pressure as well to sign up for a

They tried to force me to take a mortgage and other associated products through them despite me telling them I was porting my current mortgage on a far better rate. As I had not taken a mortgage through them they did not take the property of the market once my offer was accepted and I was gazumped and they put me over a barrel just as my survey and searches were being paid for. Rang 4 times on a Saturday afternoon, just gone under offer ourselves so anxious to arrange some viewings. No answer from branch each time we called (prime time Saturdays??), chose not to leave an answerphone message instead kept trying until got an answer, which I eventually did, I asked if a particular house was still available, he said yes, and said would call back as he was busy - I could tell he would not from his voice (not interested in the slightest) and I was right to think so as they did not ring back. I will consider going and knocking on the vendors doors myself (how else do I arrange to view?) - I would be horrified if I were one of them with that lack of service from their agent!!

The worst estate agent I have ever used. They have lied from the outset and have been completely incompetent throughout. I have asked for regular updates on my property, but in two months have received ONE phone call from them. They put up a 'For Sale' sign that looked like it had been scrawled in felt tip pen, and when I complained, they said they would change it. Inevitably, they didn't. I would never use this company again.

Over valued the property, so no intrest from buyers, we had to tell them it was over valued! So we reduced the price to reflect the market, did not get told we had a viewing booked in, only found... (read more)

    Each to their own opinion!

I purchased through Fox & Sons. They wanted me to use their solicitor and mortgage broker. So did every other agent and every other solicitor and every other mortgage broker. I'd already made arrangements through my brother, an IFA. I had to speak to Fox & Sons consultant when I offered, turns out they had access to mortgage products that my brother didn't. I'd spoken to other agents and brokers in the town and Fox & Sons had an exclusive! The sales staff also told me about "vendor gifted deposits", no other agent had ever mentioned any incentive or scheme... (read more)

Fox and Sons are they the worst estate agents in my area. The things they are good at are :
    - Not keeping in touch with you.
    - The person you wish to speak to is always on the phone and will never call you back
    - Giving you the wrong price when showing you round a property
    - They will make your buying process hell if you don't use their broker
    - Being pushy
    The list is endless.

We have made an offer on a property and we have waited 3 weeks for a yes or no answer. I understand as a repossession it takes time .. but 3 weeks ?

As a 1st time buyer they have made my first time buying a property extremely stressful. I will be taking legal action against them shortly. As according to the company dealing with the repossession they weren't aware any offer had been made by myself, that is in effect illegal.

All I can advise stay away! Buyers beware .

We sold our flat through the Shoreham branch Sept 2009. the first sales pitch was very slick and positive the team seemed on the ball and said that they were new in and going to turn things around.

We were first time sellers and they said that all agents fee's are 1.5% on the asking price (not the selling) we later realised that this is not the case and this meant that they did not really care what the selling price was as they still made the same amount.

During the sale of our flat the office changed teams at least 3 times, this meant that we had a different person to deal with each time which made it really hard to keep track of what was going on.

To top this all off the mortage advisor also left before the sale went through (2 months in total)

Countless times we would call them and they would not answer or return phone calls.

I will never use Fox and Sons again, we complained to the parent company.

    Awful awful awful!

Not so much Fox and Sons but Sequance Homes.

Lies lies lies and on top of that lies!

Not to mention being unable to get hold of anyone on the phone, never available, no call backs!

Viewed a house early Aug, arranged to move in mid Oct only to be called 3 days before and told that the "owner" wasnt even sure they wanted to let the property out anymore!!!

This left me and my family (3 children) homeless for 3 weeks until we found somewhere else with someone else!!!

Took an email direct to the MD to get nay form of decent apology!

Id rather live in a cardboard box than have to rent through this lot! The lack of communication is disgusting, how can they treat people like that!

Fox and Sons Brighton, Western Road Sales Office.

Absolutely awful service. They would only provide my offer to the vendor if I would take out one of their rubbish mortgages and threatened so many times. The vendor has no idea of their practices.

Get in touch with the vendor and tell them what an awful, threatening service they offer, it is the only way.

Do not be intimiated by them. Tell them you are recoridng every conversdation and get communication in writing.

I had to walk away from a nice property becuase of the way I was treated.

A really poor office, full of awful people. Walk away both sellers and purchasers.

As i first time buyer I was nervous to say then least about finding my first home, I cannot fault the help Fox and Sons lewes road gave me at all, in comparison to other local independant agents who were only interested in selling me the first thing that came along within my budget.
The staff at Lewes Road Fox and Sons spent time explaining to me the buying process and why it is important to make sure you can afford to buy somewhere before you start having a look at flats, as it turned out I couldn't afford to borow as much as I thought so seeing their consultant before I viewing proved... (read more)

Wouldn't let me even view a property unless I agreed to do my mortgage etc through them. They tried to force me to use their solicitor when I have my own through family.

Apparently they get commission from the solicitor too!!!

Go direct to the vendor and tell them that Fox's will even loose them a sale to make more money for themselves!

Unless of course the sale is a probate!!! Then your really stuck.

There is no governing body to report them to either!!

Shame on you Fox and Son's!

Estate Agents... Well, we all know that they have a reputation, but I feel that I have to leap to the defence of Fox & Sons.. Well the one in Elm Grove, Brighton at least..

After putting our house on the market, admittedly during a very difficult time for sellers, I went through two seemingly useless estate agents before employing the services of Fox & Sons.

We basically wanted "people through the door" and that's exactly what they did. During a time when very few people were looking, we had 3 or 4 people a week looking around our property and it wasn't long before we had an... (read more)

I have just sold my house in Brighton through Fox and Sons on the Lewes Road. I was very happy with the service they provided, they sold my house very quickly at a good price. I found all of them to be courteous, professional and supportive throughout the sale, and I would definitely use them again. They also recommended a conveyancer and she did a really good job for me too.

I completely agree with all of the bad reviews, Fox & Sons are the worst estate agents out there!!! I am a first time buyer and dealt with the Crawley branch. Seeing a flat me and my partner loved we decided to see their mortgage advisor. After having several fees thrown our way and an awful mortgage we decided not to take one with them. Once we told them this they turned against us quite quickly. The agent delayed sending our offer to the seller time and time again using obvious lies and excuses so a buyer using their mortgage would get the property. We were asked to give our final and best... (read more)

Reading the reviews on here has made me so angry, months and months after my own experience with Fox's Lewes Rd Brighton office.

I'm not going to go into details, as these reviews are clearly read by Fox's employees who then feel the need to defend their kind, and I wouldn't put verbal abuse on the street past some of them.

Suffice to say I had a lucky escape when I removed my property from the market, and only Fox's complete disregard for the regulations they are meant to be governed by allowed me to escape without paying the various "fees" and "costs" they tried to extort from... (read more)

Do not under any circumstances use Fox & Sons anywhere, but in particular North End, Portsmouth. Everything you read that is negative on this site is true. They are unprofessional, rude, tell lies, make you see their financial advisor before you can see a house even when you tell them you have a mortgage arranged. They use every bully boy tactic imaginable. They do not appear to belong to the Ombudsman so there is basically nowhere for you to go to complain officially about them and their shady behaviour. They do not communicate with you, and how this organisation is still in business is beyond me. Customer service is none existent.

I fully believe that fox & sons really do work for the vendor and not the buyer which other agents get confused with. My property was on with another estate agent originally and I had 2 buyers that both withdrew their offers as it turned out a few weeks down the line that couldn't actually get a mortgage. Fox & Sons also got me

AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE!
Buying through Fox & Sons was a complete nightmare because we wouldn't use their in-house mortgage and conveyancing service. They wouldn't take the house off the market even though our offer had been accepted, we caught them actively encouraging someone else to gazump us. It was only thanks to the decency of the couple selling the property that it is ours today. Fox and Sons in Kemp Town Brighton are to be approached with extreme caution!

We are in the middle of buying a property through this company and are thoroughly suspicious of their motives at every turn. Earlier this year we started buying through them and were told they wouldn't take the property off the market, even after our offer was accepted, unless we used their mortgage advisor and conveyancing firm. We are first time buyers and felt really bullied by their tactics. Unfortunately this sale fell through anyway, but we found another property a couple of weeks ago. When I went for the viewing I was asked to come in early so they could join me us for a scheme... (read more)

I had to change agents, because they couldn't or wouldn't pursue a sale. I now have a buyer that was first introduced by Fox and Sons, they made an offer, we turned it down, Fox and Sons then told them to look elsewhere for a property, and did not pursue them for an increase offer. Unbeknown to us this purchaser then offered higher through our new agent and we accepted. Now Fox and Sons are pursuing us for payment.

Although our purchaser has given our new agents a signed statement saying that Fox and Sons had told them to look elsewhere, and that they would not have purchased our house through Fox and Sons because of their proffesional attitude!!!!

Now were between a rock and a hard place, because Fox and Sons did not look after our interest, but only their own

In my experience of dealing with 'professional' companies I have never dealt with such an incompetent, deceitful, uncommunicative set of idiots. I trusted them with letting my property whilst I spent a trip of a lifetime travelling overseas.

Sadly, at least once a month of my 18 months away I had to contact them with various issues.
Despite many emails they continued to get the address wrong for my parents who were dealing with correspondence whilst I was away. They completely misinformed me on the renewal fee for extending a contract, they carried out non mandatory electricity checks... (read more)

I am at my wits end trying to make the Romsey branch communicate with me. Having put my house on the market with them and being assured, as is everyone, that they just needed 'to get them in the door', I waited for the viewings. There were some actually but could I get any feedback from the Agent? Never! I've had to contact them every single time, sometimes having waited over a week, and I too have had the same story about "Couldn't get hold of you" or "couldn't get hold of the viewer". I have now had three very long conversations and a meeting with the Manager to explain the imp[ortance of communication but now, a fortnight after the last viewing I am still waiting for feedback, despite yet another reminder. Today I am giving them notice. I'm fed up chasing them all the time. I thought they weren't that busy at the moment?

I am an Independent Financial Adviser, not a prospective customer. Some facts about this lovely company..

    1. They will practically force you to see their mortgage adviser - if you do not take your mortgage through their broker with their limited lender panel, they will probably not even inform the vendor about your offer.

    2. I know of two instances where they have not too subtly hinted that you may get the property cheaper if you use their adviser.

    3. The "manager" of a branch close to me patted a sole female viewer on her backside on the way out the door. I joke not.

As many others have warned... Stay away from this company. I believe there are all sorts of communications going on in the background that shouldn't be.

The first mistake we made was to accept a shorthold tenancy on a property one month before we were due to leave our live in work accomodation. No, apparently this wasn't long enough. It took them 5 weeks to get all the paperwork done and give us the keys. By paperwork we all know his means printing out pre-drafted/saved contracts and documents. They couln't even get the date right on our conract.

Please, please heed my warning and steer clear of this company!! Especially the Eastbourne branch.

-Really intrusive credit check form ( everthing but blood type and inside leg measurement!)

-Badly informed staff ( resulting in losing me money)

-Air of corporate supertority (we are better than you because you are just a tenant!)

-Basically, made me feel like I had been robbed, when due to their sortcomings and lack of information they refused to give my money back, because it had been "allocated". ( I would not have proceeded if the information had been in place at the beginning!... (read more)

I have all my finances in place, iam a first time buyer and in a very good position, i go to fox and sons in brighton, trying to buy a property with them, and encounter nothing but problems.

Firstly they tell us, even if the seller accepts our offer if we dont take a mortgage with them they will keep it on the market. Then they accuse my partner of lying when he says he already has a mortgage. They say the seller requested that any potential buyers must have a mortgage through them so there is no risk!! So we go and see the seller and thay don't know or never said anything of the sort.

They still have not got back to us about our offer and they have i reckon told the seller we are high risk!! We have had to go into the office and show our mortgage details, bank statements ect.. and still no reply to our offer!

I am going to call the ombudsman in the morning and contact my solicitor to see where to go next! And they still haven't told the seller of ou offer!!!!! I also recorded all conversations for proof. They cant keep treating people like this.

Needed constant chasing, didn't take us seriously as buyers and insisted on leaving the property on the market just because we didn't take out a mortgage through them (we were tied in to a fixed rate with our lender anyway!). Basically they were rubbish and we only used them as they were the sole agent on the property we were buying, so had no choice!

Our experience with Fox and Sons has been the worst we ever experienced in our life. We lived in three countries and travelled the world, but never encountered such a poor service as we did with this company.

The lack of knowledge and professionalism have shown in all the communication. Actually the only time when the agency communicated with us was when they needed to let us know that the landlord would visit us. Otherwise, we have been waiting and waiting for answers at our questions.

They mislead us from the very beginning with information given about the house, with the fee for the inventory (which over night "raised") and with promises that problems would be solved.

A very disappointing experience. When we are ready to buy a house, we definitely won't use this company and we will never recommend anyone to use their awful services.

Trying to sell our house through Fox and Sons Eastleigh was one of the worst moves we ever made. Their manager was very helpful and positive at the valuation, but this was in reality the only good point I can think of.

They were 'confident' they could get 'feet through the door' at the price we agreed, but failed miserably. In 8 weeks we had 7 booked viewings of which one actually turned up. They constantly claimed to have been 'trying to contact us' despite having every contact number under the sun for us (with multiple voicemails).

They placed the house on Rightmove but when I phoned to report it didn't come up under our area it took me five attempts (with no returned calls) to get them to vaguely say they thought this was an issue with the website.

I would not recommend this branch to anyone bar my worst enemies.

That old lady there is a sure shrew. She sold the house we offered on to a cash buyer[or so she says]. First they insist we use their financial advisor and their conveyancing. The FA is not supposed to disclose our personal information and observations to anyone but has given his idea about us as a high risk. so we lost that lovely house with beautiful landscaped garden and a childrens playground at rear.

Still what did I do? The following week I showed that old cow our mortgage agreed on principle. Later she showed us a house which was also marketed by few other estate agents. I took my revenge and bought that house through the other agent. She tried treatening and all other nasty tricks for commision. nothing worked though. Someone should teach agents lessons about hurt & gazumping.
