Terrible

We looked at several properties with the Wapping branch one evening. The bloke that showed us around seemed decent enough and we were interested in one of the properties shown but he went on holidays the following day. The second bloke I spoke to re putting in an offer was incredibly bullying with high pressure tactics. He tried to tell me the standard term was 18 - 24 months (hah!) and then demanded credit card details for a deposit whose terms he was very vague about. I smelt a crooked rat and told him to forget it. So pleased I did. Avoid.

Terrible

I have rented two different flats through the Tower Hamlets branch. On both occassions the landlords tried to keep my deposit, and on both occassions they utterly failed to protect me. Both times they "lost" their copies of the inventory and other important paperwork, leaving me unable to defend myself against false accusations that I had damaged the properties. In one case I even ended up paying to repair some damage that had been there before I moved in.

I agree with the landlord saying the centralised office is a nightmare too. It helps them to conveniently "lose" documents and makes getting damage deposits back very tricky- in one case it took me six months and a threat of legal action before they finally coughed up.

The customer service stops the minute they get your signature. Once they have it you're on your own.

Bad

We found a place we liked and put in an offer which required a £500 holding deposit to show we were serious. They took my card details over the phone then and there - which I realise now is their trick to try and make money off you before you've signed anything. Once we actually received the reservation letter, we weren't happy with the terms. This is because they can take the £500 off you if they deem your references 'unnacceptable' - even though you pay them hundreds of pounds for their referencing separately!

We decided it was too much of a gamble for them to turn around and say they don't like us as tenants (and basically steal £500 off us) so we asked for the money back.

They were all friendly and easy to get hold of when we were interested. Now they are impossible to get hold of, are completely reluctant to put anything down in writing, and have regularly put the phone down on us (!).

It's a shame because I'd of hoped that they were different - but when it comes down to it they're only interested in money - not the tenants' needs.

Terrible

I would definately NOT recommend FJL. The "service" was diabolical, I actually felt bullied by the staff. Organisation was awful. Paperwork STILL not completed over two months later. Avoid at all costs.

Bad

Although I was happy with the branch office, since finding me a tenant I've had terrible problems with this agency, specifically the centralised management of the tenanted flat. An agency to be avoided.

Good

In the kingdom of the blind they were relatively good. Only downpoint was that they didn't pass on an offer to the buyer about fixtures and fittings despite claiming they had.
