The agent in general did not have the answer to my questions and weren't very interested in finding out the answers. In the end I phoned the freeholder myself to get the required information.
When I put an offer in and didn't increase it I said to the agent that I wasn't convinced that there was another buy and felt he was just trying to push the price up unneccessarily, to which he responded '' yes well that could be the case but you'll never know''What kind of cowboys are they?
I didn't increase my offer for many reasons , one being that Dexters in general overvalue properties. I had them come to view my current property and value it , they valuded it at £10K more than ALL OTHER AGENTS, therefore when buying a property through Dexters -- always take at least £10K off the asking price.

Just had a very unhelpful telephone conversation with a female staff, who curtly informed me that the property I inquired via email (no reply to the email) has been sold. No explanation as to why the property is still on the market and she did not ask if she could have my information for future recommendation.
In fact, the conversation goes like this:
"Hello, I would like to inquire about a property in ..."
"Ok, how much?"
"£..."
"It's been sold."
"Oh..."

We approched Dexters for rental properties in Chiswick, they were ever so kind to show us a few, we saw one we liked. After being told by the agent that we could have this flat unfurnished, we put down a holding deposit that same day.
The agent says not a problem, so we fill out all the paper-work, send our bank details, employment- and landlord references etc.. all stressful stuff and time consuming. We signed the 36 months contract & Tenancy agreement and sent it over. The contract didn't mention that the flat was to be let unfurnished, so we made sure to add this condition.

As locals in Twickenham, we approached Dexters with regards to the letting of our house. We bought into their sales pitch with promises of a buoyant market, Landlords receiving asking rents and masses of applicants registered - what a mistake! Two weeks into the marketing, we discovered that they were showing applicants with budgets far shy of what they had valued the house at, and after the first week, viewings dried up completely. There was a distinct lack of feedback - we had to chase for this after every viewing; most of the time it was non-descript and we were none the wiser.
The customer service element is dire - you'll speak to a different person every time you get a call or try to call them, and the calibre of their staff is just awful - I later found out from another local agent that Twickenham is the training office for new Dexters staff - this explains everything!
All in all, a dreadful experience, just don't go there!

I read the poor reviews yet went ahead with the agreement. HUGE MISTAKE!! I wish I had listened to everyones views! From the start our flat had problems. As soon as they have your money, don't expect to hear from them again! Our flat wasn't even legally safe, but they didn't care! I chased and chased.
I am trying to build up enough evidence so we can legally get out of our contract and rent through any other agent.
I know I will never see my deposit again.

We rented with Dexters a year ago and experienced lots of issues starting from the day we asked for a viewing. First they cancelled viewings a couple of time, then they did not have the keys for the property we have been interested in but showed us a couple of other not yet advertised flats. We had several attempts to view the flat we now live in - when we finally managed to arrange a time and date we have been ushered through the flat in 2 minutes as it was already late evening and the girl showing the flat wanted to go home.

I have rented my property through Dexters for over three years. Their customer service has been dreadful and they have really only acted for tenants or in their own interests rather than mine. When I have raised issues with their service I have had the phone put down on me by their branch, they have ignored written complaints from me as have their Head Office, Thamesview. They have used their own contractors to undertake surveys or reports on damage or issue with the property and have used companies who are sub-standard to undertake the work/reports. When I questioned this they have been extremely rude and unhelpful, especially when I got my own experts in who contradicted their reports.
I stayed with Dexters as they have always rented my property out and I figured 'better the devil you know' but am now changing agents as I can't deal with this any more.

Dexters were very professional at first, taking us to see lots of properties - but as soon as we started negotiating, their attitude changed completely. They would take days to come back to us regarding our offers - probably hoping to get a better one.
Eventually, our final offer was accepted, but a few days later they claimed the landlords had had a change of heart and said the only way to keep the flat was to improve our offer. They even readvertised the flat twice - the second time for a lower rent than our final offer!
I guess we'll never know what was really going on, but one thing is certain - next time we're looking for a flat, we'll stay well away from Dexters.

Im in my last 2 months and i agreed they can book viewings in the flat. They are harrassing me everyday several times when they want to book a viewing even when i already agreed to another agent but it seems communcation fails hard over there. There is no respect for them they call me even in the morning. They dont really care i told them i have to do night shifts sometimes they just keep calling. Two days ago they came into my house without any notice while i was sleeping and i had to wake up on unknown people walking around my flat. I was really pissed and kicked them out and cancelled all the bookings they made. Then landlord called me i cant do that... it was so obvious they ignore my privacy and dont respect me at all.

We have had pour property one with Dexters for three and a half months. They were rubbish! Felt like they were working for the viewers and not us, they were often rude on the phone making us feel like we were a bother and they kept pushing us to keep dropping the price of our property. We wouldn't get feed back on viewings and we found that our property wasnt even on their web-site! When we asked why this was all we got was it was a computer error, which they never corrected!!!

I rented my flat out through Dexters, who also managed it, before I sold it to my tenants earlier this year.
As a landlord I had a very positive experience. The team told me they had suitable tenants ready and waiting for a flat like mine, and it turned out they were right! The tenants were great; Dexters got me a very good rent - more than expected; and the fees charged were competitive - all parties were very happy.
Having got it rented, I found Dexters management service very professional, reliable and helpful.

I will never use this agernt again. They lie to tenants and try to get prospective tenants to outbid each other despite having a holding deposit. Also having rented a property from one of the landlords they represent, they collude with the landlord to hold onto your deposit for as long as possible despite meeting all of the requirements. Do not use this estate agent and be wary of any landlords that use them regularly as all they care about is ripping off tenants as that makes them popular with greedy and unscrupulous landlords. Be fully conversant of the deposit scheme as well as some deposit schemes also serve to secure the landlord and are unhelpful when a dispute arises. The one used by our landlord wanted to wash their hands of things saying they don't hold the deposit it is only registered with them, so we should sort things out with the landlord and estate agents. no surprise the scheme is recommended by Dexters.

I found Dexters in Ealing excellent to deal with. I was dealing with the one person from start to finish which kept things simple and straightforward. We did not take the property but this is no reflection on Dexters, we just found a property which suited us better. If we are house hunting again, I would be extremely happy to approach Dexters again.

I found Dexters in Shepherds Bush to be very helpful in finding accommodation for me and my husband, particularly Mawuena who kept me informed of the process all the way up to the move in. Would definitely rent with the Shepherds Bush office again.

I find the staff at Dexters Richmond office extremely unprofessional, irritating and incompetent. They harass me with calls to show the flat, which I always agreed so long as they have keys to let themselves in because both my husband and I work. They haven't got keys and instead of asking the landlord for keys, they harass me instead on a daily basis. They ask me (6 months pregnant woman) to drop off keys at their office so they can have a spare set cut. I work just like the rest of the world and don't have time. All that this company wants is the property of the market at any cost..They don't care and I wouldn't use them ever again !! Sat all winter freezing waiting for them to fix the heating and it was a whole 6 months later it got sorted 5 months too late...!! Warning: don't use this company!

Similar experience to others expressed here. Paid a holding deposit only to discover other 'offers' were being considered. Conflicting stories followed. I'm not convinced they even knew the truth themselves by the end of the saga. Being told the property was being let to someone else seems like a blessing in disguise and a lucky escape.

Dexters were the only agent I visited in the Putney are that were able to listen to my needs and find exactly what I was looking for. I am very happy with my flat and the few inevitable teething problems I did have were dealt with excelently by the staff. I would highly recommend.

Sadly had similar story than many others did, had holding deposit on a flat and 2(!!!) days before move in date they pulled out. We are most certainly going to take it further anyone having similar issues is more than welcome to join us; let me know!

Once we found a property, we had great trouble getting them to do anything. They lost three losts of post, sent out the wrong invoice. And failed to set up the rent payment. I had to print all the contracts out myself, phone up every week to make sure things got done, and have an extra set of keys cut because they hadn't thought they needed two sets for two people moving in. There fees were excessive too.

Once a holding deposit were put down, they continued to market, despite the fact that preventing this is the precise reason holding deposits have any benefit to tenants. Then tried to lie about it, but couldn't even do that right.
Agents repeatedly had incorrect facts about properties, including basics like moving in dates.
Unprofessional, certainly not putting the customer first, whether a tenant or landlord.
Stay well, well clear.

Worst estate agent that I have ever dealt with. Took a deposit down on a property in order to secure it, then continued to advertise it and let out to someone else, days before we were due to move in. Added to which, staff whilst friendly at first then became impossible to get in touch with. Also they refuse to re-credit the holding deposit for 12days!

Recently occupied a flat let and managed by Dexters. They were fairly good for a letting agent, I've certainly had the misfortune to come accross much worse.
There were a couple of issues moving in due to Dexter failing to communicate between tennant/landlord effectively but beyond that nothing too bad.
Maintenance and general management issues were dealt with fairly promptly and effectively.

Dexters totally misled me about the lease status of a flat I had put an offer on, luckily my solicitor caught it in time before I wasted any money. They are completely dishonest in my opinion. Stay clear.
I would say any positive reviews on this site are written by Dexters staff members.

Dexters are good in certain aspects and horrible in other. Good at arranging viewings, Renewals of lease and very agressive in marketing the properties. A negative aspect is that once you hand over the holding deposit their attitude changes completely.

Very concise, keen, honest, dealt with every concern quickly and efficiently from day 1 of letting with them. Since I have moved into another property with them and wouldn't consider anyone else in the area!

, in addition to look after the sofas for the duration of the tenancy, could to take the beds & all other furniture from this 2nd-/1st floor flat to the rubbish dump at own expense!!!
It's clear that the flat was never going to be let unfurnished, yet Dexters proceeded with our application and was more than happy to collect a holding deposit from us on the spot. Are you friggin kidding me?? They also harass me to a point where they ask what exactly am I doing on weekends so to plan my weekend or day around their schedules. In view of how disruptive they have been, I reluctantly took time off work to drop off keys. They were not at all apologetic or grateful but whatever, they've cut keys and I was on my way. Only 1/2 hour later, they call me again saying one of the CHUBB key doesn't work and could I come back for the 2nd time to cut keys. My blood was boiling at this point. When I said no. They asked if I could leave the CHUBB unlocked for them to access the flat. I was shocked - given they are Estate agents, asking me, a tenant, to leave the property without fully securing the flat. I find this highly unprofessional. I did it anyway, so they would just finally leave me alone. One day later, they are calling me again saying their agent just finished a viewing and tried to play with the CHUBB lock, to see if it works again, and she's managed to turn the key to lock the CHUBB whilst the door was still open! AND not able to turn the key back to properly lock the door! They asked me to come home right away to sort it out for them! There was nothing I could do because I was stuck at work. They hung up with me and 20 minutes later called back and said the key magically worked and the flat is now fully secure. YEH! People who work at Dexters learned how to use a key!!!
They just freak out and all they do is harass the tenant with complete disregard how disruptive they are. On average, I receive 6 calls from them on a daily basis. If they can't even learn how to use a key to unlock the door, I don't know what good they are really. They may as well ask me to show the flat for them because they can't even get their act together with arranging keys with landlord...using keys to unlock the door...all they know is to harass the tenant when they have a problem. Completely and utterly incompetent bunch at the Richmond office. I feel sorry for the landlord for paying them anything for their lack of service.
