Founded in Clifton by Charles Joseph Hole in 1867, CJ Hole’s main business was rent collection, which in the Victorian era was much more common than buying. As the years rolled by the company was passed down to his sons, so the focus of the business changed towards the selling of property as well.
CJ Hole continued to prosper and today is a major force within the highly competitive estate agency market in the South West. Their excellent reputation has helped CJ Hole to expand within Bristol, Somerset and Gloucestershire so that there are now many branches serving the area.

There is nothing to say except CJ Hole are an excellent Letting Agent. I live overseas at the moment and leave everything to CJ Hole and they have never let me down. I would recommend CJ Hole to anyone who wishes to let their property, safe in the knowledge their property would be in safe hands. My property is my one and only asset and I know it is in good hands.

By far THE best letting agents I have ever seen or used. living half way on the other side of the country it is important to me to know that my property is being managed by a professional and reliable agent. I could not recommend CJHole highly enough. I have used a number of letting agents in the Bristol area and have found them all to be useless except CJHole. I have absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to my Bristol property as I know its in good hands. Thank you CJHole.

I have used CJ Hole for 3 years now whilst i have been living overseas. They have offered an excellent service and have always managed to keep my property let. I would recommend them to anyone as they are always helpful, informative and always willing to please.

Note: These comments apply to both Gloucester Road, Bishopston and Bradley Stoke offices.
I have had no problems with my property portfolio being looked after by these two offices. Staff are extremely helpful, supportive and very available in desperate times.
I would definitely recommend CJ Hole to family and friends, and have referred many of my clients to them.

The staff at CJ Hole Henleaze were friendly and professional - although some knew what they were doing a bit better than others. We always tried to deal with the office manager Tim as he really knew what he was doing. Had one problem with the plan of the house on the sales details - they had the stairs sticking out of the house at one point....!! They did get us a good price on the property. They also liased well with our buyers and kept us in the loop of any changes or problems. Good service for what is a stressful time.

Talked to a number of staff and arranged a viewing. Agreed to move forward - staff asked for Holding Deposit which was paid. Told their staff in writing that the tenancy application would be with them in a few days time and advised that we expected to proceed and would make arrangements for payment of 6 months rent in advance and in cash. However, they let another prospective tenant view the property and arranged a let.
Not impressed - apparent lack of communication between staff with some advising move-in date and no advice of alternative tenant when presenting application forms.
Staff say that they should have had application forms within 48 hours but they had not explained this when taking the deposit.
Some difficulty in initial discussion in obtaining a copy of the proposed tenancy agreement before signing the application. Application shows evidence of ambiguous wording.
Will NOT be looking to use this firm - suggest AVOID

I don't have a great deal of experience of Estate Agents to make comparisons (hence the 4 star rating), but overall found CJ Hole to be very proactive in marketing the property and also in helping us to achieve a satisfactory price. The level of contact was good, and the only negative experience throughout were a few annoying delays in the selling process which appeared to be outside of the influence of CJ Hole.

C J Hole worked tirelessly to sell our shop property in Gloucester Road, requiring four successive offers before we could establish a contract. During the eighteen months this took, Chris Hill maintained a posative and active involvment, was always up to date on progress and readily applied suitable pressure when and where needed. One of the most effective agents we have experienced amonst several dozen previously tried.

I had dealings with CJ Hole (Rachel) twice, in 2009 and in 2011.
1st word of caution: they don't like working on Saturdays, cancel viewings, are late, or don't show up, so only use them if you are unemployed or have plenty of spare time.
In 2009, I had 2 viewings with Rachel. The 1st one was on a Saturday morning and she was 1/2 hour late. The agency could only tell me she was 'on her way'. Crawling out of bed after a boozy night, more likely. Anyway, she showed up, and she was very pushy, even though I did not like the flat at all. Matt, our agent was excellent in being available to us, answering queries and moving the process forward. With all the stereotypes of estate agents, happily all the people we had contact with at CJ Hole were incredibly helpful and very prompt. Even when our solicitors mucked things up, CJ Hole staff remained polite, impartial and smoothed the whole process over, facilitating a smooth completion.

We didn\'t pick CJ Hole at first (should have) but found their professional approach a refreshing change from other estate agents in the area. Theres more patience than other estate agents and they want you to be happy with the price you are achieving for your property. What they actually say that they will do, they actually do. E.g They do return phone calls, they do chase down feedback and more than that they are proactive and enthusiastic about your property. Buyers are vetted and any chain is explained in detail so at least you can make an informed decision about your prospective buyer!

We switched to CJ Hole (after having little success with a close competitor) and found their service to be excellent. After a difficult 9 month period the staff of CJ Hole gave us new confidence; they re marketed our property and after 4 weeks we secured a buyer. I found them to be proactive, informative, giving good advice throughout the process. All the staff communicated well, with regular updates, and messages getting through to the write people. I would definitely recommend their service and use again.

I rented my house for 3 years and the service was excellant. Tenants moved in the day after I left and when they left new tenants were in place after only 2 weeks.
I was overseas and C J Hole staff were very efficient and any issues with the property were sorted out, including this that were outside their core terms.
All staff were extremely friendly and helpfull. Accordingly, I intend to rent again in the near future and It will be with the same agent.Was this review helpful? Yes

I have tried a few letting agents in North Bristol and I have found that none of them come anywhere near to the service provided by CJ Hole. They have over a number of years let properties quickly (avoiding the all important voids) and achieving good rents. They are very responsive and personable and I can safely say never let me down.

I have a number of investment properties and have used the services of CJ Hole Cheltenham for several years every time a tenant leaves. I have always found the service received to be of the very highest standard... faultless. Whenever a property becomes available for let again, the office works incredibly hard and are very proactive in their attempts to find a replacement tenant. It\'s always a worrying time when there is the possibility of an empty property and loss of rental income, however I have never experienced more than approx. 1 week void period between tenancies which takes away all of the financial worry. All members of staff and management are polite and highly professional.

It was ups and downs with this particular letting agency, they weren't great but they weren't totally awful either. Don't think the situation was helped by a stingy landlord who was hard for them to contact and wouldn't spend any money on the property. Repairs took weeks to get sorted, if they were at all (broken lavatory all year... good thing there was a second one; the central heating broke down three times in one year!).
The staff were friendly enough, but often didn't seem especially professional, and caused considerable frustration at times. They just didn't seem to get how difficult the poor maintainable on the property made life!

Having to relocate to a brand new area and not really having the time to research all things you need, can make moving a real nightmare. Thanks to Alex (Jones) my headache wasn't as bad.The advice and guidance, plus all the help and the kindness/positivity showed was invaluable.
Even though I didn't end up renting a flat from C J Hole - this was purely down to not having anything suitable at the time, there was nothing more that they could have done.
If I have to find a new place to rent again in 6/12months time, I won't hesitate using them again. Thank you Alex for all your help.

Absolutely useless! I used the Bishopston Branch of CJ Hole to let my property in 2009 and have regretted it ever since. The staff were extremely rude to the point of being laughable, unprofessional and unable to follow simple instructions or understand the contents of a simple letter. Communication was non-existent and I felt I was banging my head against a brick wall the whole time my property was registered with them. Phone calls and emails were never returned or replied to and I ended up with an enormous repair bill for my newly refurbished flat which was badly damaged by tenants taken on by CJ Hole. Never again!

Having experienced significant problems with another agent, CJ Hole Bishopston stepped into the breach, and despite not gaining the benefit of the final sale, worked incredibly hard and professionally with a significant number of viewings which resulted in several offers over an 8 day period. I would highly recommend them to prospective purchasers. The whole team work really well together. I would certainly use their services in the future should the need arise. We have sold twice with C.J. Hole, Henleaze. George Mawer helped us to achieve our objectives when moving house. in a friendlly but professional manner. The other members of staff were also friendly and efficient. We would not hesitate to use their services in the future.

2011. I book a viewing with Rachel, on a Saturday morning. The viewing is cancelled 1 day before. I book another viewing the next Monday (I had a job interview in the afternoon). Rachel does not show up. I call the agency and they tell me: \'you do not have any viewings booked with us\'. I then book a 3rd viewing the next Saturday.
