    Just sold for the first time using Barnard Marcus. Found the experience really easy and as stress free as possible! Chris Randall was my main point of contact at the office and I found him thoroughly professional and helpful. He reassured me when I lost my first buyer and then the office found me another buyer within 5 days! BM always returned my calls and contacted me regularly . All in all, Well worth the fee!!! Made the other agents I dealt woth look Mediocre

    I found the Barnard Marcus branch people ok, but the Sequence office that manages the ongoing lettings absolutely terrible.

    Item 1 - for a plumber call out, a charge of £675 was duplicated on my bill. Sequence agreed it was a duplicate, but said that they had fallen out with the plumbing company so I would need to contact them to get the money back myself, even though Sequence managed the work. After 3 months of arguing - they finally reversed the duplicate.

    I brought a flat with Atkinson McLeod.

    The flat was also on the books of Winkworth and Barnard Marcus. After my offer was accepted Winkworth removed it, but Barnard Marcus did not.

    Despite repeated requests they refused to take the flat off their books and only did so the day before the same went through. And here is why I think they do this.

    I was looking for a buy-to-let. I called barnard Marcus as they had 4 flats I was interested in. When I called they told me that 3 of the 4 had gone but they had some similar ones for me.

    So that is it. Advertise flats that are under offer with other agents to draw people in.

    Absolutely terrible service and I would rather lose money on a property than have to pay them a penny. you have been warned.

    Took out a 12 month tenancy with a 6 month break clause in an almost completely unfurnished property (apart from sofas). I was not happy with the 6 month break clause as another agent from another company told me that it was only for 6 months and that's why their company did not take it on. I queried this with Barnard Marcus and was told that it was for 12 months but there may be a tiny possibility the landlady would return after 6 months but this was very unlikely as she had been abroad for 7 years.

    Barnard Marcus (on archway road) were our letting agents from Oct 2010 to Oct 2011. We had many problems with the agents and I advise any tenants letting through them to go to somewhere else.

    The first person we dealt with whilst moving in was incredibly rude to us (including slamming the phone down on one occasion) and generally inefficient in relation to the contract. We also did not recieve any documentation relating to our deposit protection scheme (in the end i had to ring round the various schemes to find out if it was registered).

    I have been extremenly impressed with Maryjane and am eternally grateful for her perseverence and excellent negotiation skills. I am confident that if it was not for her, my house purchace would never have happened! She seemed to be the only one in the whole process who knew what she was doing. Maryjane was available at all times to give advice and support and went that extra mile to ensure that the purchase was successful.     Bearing in mind I deal with estate agents for a living (I am a homefinder) I was simply gobsmacked at how poor this particular office has been. 3 different applicants turned up at the same property for a viewing booked in with 3 different members of staff and not one of them was on time. Eventually one member of staff turned up 20 minutes late and showed the flat to all 3 of us. No prior phone call to alert us to the fact they were going to be late.     Left 3 messages and no one bothered to return my call. The Administrative (who was half a sleep) asked me for my Date of Birth just to register me, being that I was reluctant to surrender confidential details, this administrator sounded unimpressed of my response! I've taken my business else where. No one the seller can't shift their property.

    I rented a property and the landlord wanted to sell it so he put and add with Barnard Marcus in Kennington, London. I really didn't care as I was leaving anyway. My only request was to be present while the viewings as I had lots of expensive staff and I just didn't like to have strangers in my place if I'm not there.

    One of the agents came twice with clients and every time when both clients saw the damp in the bedroom, they asked me and told me their concerns about it.

    The branch in Fulham is staffed by incompetent administrators. They got two key aspects to my tenancy wrong - the period of the tenancy (despite me reiterating this to them) and the type of tenancy I was taking out: they did not know until I had moved in that the landlord was resident and so I have no deposit protection. Incompetent and not bothered. Do not use them.

    The service was absolutely appalling. My contract became periodic at the end of the initial fixed term. I was happy to stay but the landlord became a bit dodgy towards the end of the tenancy. He asked me to pay him the rent in cash, which I was supposed to give to BM. He said he didn't want to use the agency anymore. Then all of a sudden he wanted to increase the rent.     We ended our tenancy on 6th November 2010 and are still waiting for our deposit back. Each time I rang, the person who deals with our letting wasn't available and of course she never rang back or replied to my emails. I finally found out that the landlord was supposed to write to BM to tell them the deposit can be released, BM said they don't get involved with this it is down to the tenant to chase the landlord.     I have been renting on and off (both privately and through agents) for 20 years. I have never been so appalled at my treatment as a tenant than the last year with Barnard Marcus.

    I have been struggling to get the damage from a small leak from the above flat fixed for 6 months.

    I call Barnard Marcus/Sequence homes on a regular basis. My point of contact is rarely available straight away, and practically never returns my calls.

    I would like to make a firm warning to anyone considering using this Barnard Marcus office. The man I dealt with was ***** *****, by far the worst Estate Agent I have ever encountered.     A word of advice if thinking of using this estate agent.

    The Registration fee is optional, you do not have to pay it, it is apparently for advanced marketing, and will be deducted from the end fee, should you sell.

    However should you not wish to pay this "Registration Fee", refuse!

    The estate agents at Barnard Marcus were completely incompetent and unprofessional. They delayed for a week on confirming a meeting with the landlord, when we had to buy train tickets in order to get to it, leaving us with just 3 days to buy tickets in advance (hence very expensive tickets). Every time I rang, they said they'd ring back but they never did. The only time I got directly through to the person I needed to talk to was when I was arranging to pay them. When we asked for a slight change to the contract we were told it would be emailed to us, which it wasn't. A few days later we were told that it was with the 'legal team' being finalised, we never got it, the contract we signed in the end was exactly the same as the first one.     I totally agree with previous negative comments. We are trying to sell and have been with Barnard Marcus in Epsom for about 5 weeks. We were promised a report every Monday on how the internet searches from potential buyers looked like and we only got 2 so far and we had to chase them lots of time to get a report. I have chased to get a Board up which is supposed to attract 30% of the sales and after chasing for days and days it is still not there. This agency is hopeless and useless as far as I'm concerned. The contract is finishing soon and I will certainly not renew with them.

I was recommended this office by a friend who had a very good experience with them and I in turn was very pleased also with the service.     Lazy, unprofessional and incompetent are unfortunately the only words I can use to describe the staff at this branch. They are disingenuous in their communications and apt to lie.     They expect you to pay them an upfront fee to market your property, their contract is tied in for 20 weeks.

    These people are unprofessional, and not good at selling properties.

    I have found Putney Barnard Marcus dishonest and lazy in their dealings. I am submitting a complaint to the Ombudsman this afternoon in an effort to reclaim approx 1000 gpb which they have lied to earn and very reluctant to even discuss.

    I was looking for contact details for a Head Office but can't find any so am not sure who else has oversight over the individual branches.

    Simply rented me a property which is falling apart. Basically heating and the entry phone system is not working at all and left me for two weeks last December with a baby with no heating what so ever. Repeated lengthy letters were sent out informing the problems I am having and every time the answer was just a ball pass where they repeatedly keep saying that landloard was out of the country and waiting to here from him. Finally my washing machine broke and haven't fixed it for two weeks either. I went to the Citizens Advice bureau because I had enough with these guys and sent a letter saying that I will keep sending my laundry bills if they don't fix it immediately. The final reply was a new washing machine and a two months notice to leave the property. Avoid at all cost.

    Disgusting. They viewed my home. Gave a great valuation on it. Much to my surprise, they took to telling me and buyers, that my home is ex corporation. My solicitors, and management asured me, this was certainly not the case. Still they persisted. This was to lower the price for a quicker sale. Well, lies beget lies. Nobody has seemingly informed them of this matter. They know not what they are selling. The worse thing is...... the constant lies. A disgrace to their profession. I speak of the Whetstone branch.

    Their inaccuracies and lack of communication caused delays, additional costs and much bad feeling between myself and the property owners. It was only after the owners and myself met face to face that we realised the extent of these inaccuracies. I have written a 4 page letter to their head office listing the shortfalls in their service and deceipt. After 2 months there has been no reply.

    I have recently rented a property from them, Surbiton branch, and I am currently having various issues with them. Not only have they blatantly lied when I have clearly told them many times and on various occasions the reasons I wanted to move was to be able keep a pet. The lady we dealt with immediately pointed out a property and said this would be perfect for what we are looking for, wanting to keep a dog and all.     Now I know why everyone hates estate agents! Mine who I won't name seemed conveniently to be always "on the other line" or "just popped out" and had to be constantly chased to get a response. Told us incorrect information that he had sorted surveys, sorted problems etc and actually lied about a couple of things (we ended up dealing with things through our solicitors!). Seemed like a nice guy when I actually got to speak to him and fair play they may be busy but I do have a very busy job so I know what it's like but there is no excuse for not passing on simple messages, making easy phone calls and sending emails, maybe the guy was very inexperienced but I will definitely never use them again and make sure noone I know does, (unless, unfortunately I have to buy a house from them again!!)

    Incompetent. Arrogant. Rude. Unhelpful, Talk the talk and rarely walk the walk. Lots of promises that never materialise. Terrible communication skills (as in if they don't think it's worth bothering to call you back they don't).

    I handed over the management of my house to them and ever since I have had to deal with my property on a constant basis. The first two months management fees were refunded on the basis they did a terrible job (in that I had to chase EVERYTHING and there were mistakes left right and centre).

    I invited Barnard Marcus to come and value my house with a view to put it on the market. They made the appointment originaly for 7 p.m but rung to change it to five o'clock and we agreed for them to come at 5.30 p.m but they never showed up. When I called them about 4 minutes past 6 I was told that someone had left to see me. No one turned up! I am appalled at their very poor service and lack of professionalism. Based on such bad service I would never use any of them to deal with my property. However based on the terrible reviews I have read in this site I am not surprised.

    We rented a house through the Putney Branch in 2008. On our initial viewing, we spotted a flooded back garden (rain apparently) and mould crawling down the bathroom walls (due to tenants not using the fan we were told). Don't ask us why, but we agreed to take it, subject to these issues being attended to immediately. As Barnard Marcus were the managing agents, we arranged for their mantainence team to swoop in and clear up the mess....which I'm sure they would have if they'd ever turned up. One should always chase things up oneself, but I am very pleased and confident with the service I receive at Turnham Green, particularly from the manager Peet, who is the best I have dealt with in very many years.     Don't use the Clapham branch. Been in the flat for 11 months, they manage it and have no keys (never have done). They have lied to us (we have copies of the emails)- telling us work will be carried out, then a week later telling us the contractors haven't even been contacted. The latest is that they don't have one of the front door keys - I asked the agent to copy the one from our set as we have a contractor coming in for a quote next week and then they'll need access again to carry out the work (and my flatmate and I shouldn't have to share one set of keys) - he refused as he'd have to pay for it out of his own pocket and claim it back.

    Don't touch the Putney branch with a barge pole! The most unethical people I've ever tried to do business with.

    Having had an offer rejected on a flat - I changed to make a lower offer on a smaller flat - the agents didn't put the offer to the landlord until I upped it as high as I had done for the 1st one... as they knew I could afford it..

    Eventually went to another agent and put an offer on a property - later found out that Barnard Marcus had the same property - they then called the landlord and lied to him to try and make him pull out.

    Which he did... I'm left with no house - luckily I ensure the landlord knows all about the underhand dealings - I'll also make sure as many people as I possible can will hear about it.

    The Feltham branch did nothing for their fees. I had to chase them all the time. Every month they took a huge amount out of the rent. They were on the tenants side completely. No point in having a contract when they do not stick to it. I am still owed a lot of money through fraudulent maintenace bills. AVOID.

    We viewed a property through barnard marcus and put in a good offer on the condition that the seller would fix 2 things in the property to which they agreed. The estste agent agreed to inform us once the jobs had been completed as the property was vacant and they had the key. We spent money on the survey, solicitors, mortgage agreement fee etc but could not get confirmation that the work was done. After several months of phoning the branch and never having our calls returned or anybdy there even being able to tell us whether or not workman had been let in to carry out the work we gave up and pulled out of the sale. The people at the mitcham office were extemely eager to get off the phone without providing any answers. We constantly lied to about people being out of the office, or that the work would 'definately be carried out this week' etc etc

    I used the Earlsfield branch and it was an appalling service. I had a fight from day one on the percentage commission I agreed; and was misled about the cost of the HIP report (I did not expect to have to pay for it if I used nominated solicitors) which I had to pay for when I disinstructed Barnard Marcus; that was made clear on the paperwork signed by my wife but it was not made clear to me and I had agreed the deal - the paperwork was not made available for me to read before it was presented to my wife to sign. Cowboys is the only way I can describe them.

    Absolutely disgusting behaviour - the Kennington branch is the reason why Estate Agents have a bad name. They guilt tripped us, charged us way too much for the fees, never helped throughout the year, won't give us back our deposit and let themselves into the flat whenever they wanted. I have never felt less safe living somewhere.
    Please do NOT use this branch.

    Earlsfields branch.

    I was absolutely disgusted how Mr Costello and the manager himself act with me when I rented the flat throught them, they didnt' give me all the correct information about price and charge for the letting and after a month time I'm still waiting the contract and I had to contact the head office and the ARLA to deal with.

    the worst people with whom I had to do in my whole life, terrible, never reccomend to use the office in Earlsfield or to have to deal with the all agency, any branch, they made me call every morning, never call me back and all the time speak with different person and expain hundred times my problem, HORRIBLE.

    During the viewing of the flat, I noticed that there was a watermark on the ceiling and the sales agent (Holborn branch) there promised that it would be fixed when I moved in. However, nothing had been done after moving in and the water linkage was getting so serious that I had to put a bucket underneath all the time. It totally disturbed my daily life. It took them 6 months to fix it for me - covering the watermark by paint!
